A favorite
for Las Vegas Hot Boats, Lake Mead is a great place to spend a day in
the sun and on the water. Created in the early 1930's by the formation
of the world's largest Dam it holds over 290 square miles of surface
water and is twice the size of Rhode Island. The colorful rock formations,
tall canyon walls and soft sandy beaches make for great scenery and an awesome
place to drop your boat in the water and explore.
Be prepared for temperatures in excess of 110 degrees
in the peak summer months and water as warm as a spa. Many of the canyon
walls can provide some degree of shade from the blistering summer sun,
so keep an eye out for a cool spot to park your hot boat! Also, watch
where you drop your ride in and where you take it - the water level is
down 35 feet from two years ago and 20 feet of that was from last year
alone. Many of the hazards are not marked as they haven't been a hazard
in recent years until now.
