i came across an '02 PSD with 144,000 miles. from what i've heard that isn't very many miles for that motor. should i have any concerns at that mileage range? anything that typically would go wrong in the near future for that truck? the asking price is about 10k. whatchya think???

the only 2 people i can think of that have/had this motor is kurt and keith. did either of you guys have any issues with the motor/tranny on that truck? how many miles does it have by now?

thanx for the input.

It's a Ford! RUN as fast as you can from that deal....there is a reason it's a good deal! :Bolt:

j/k....I do know that that is nothing, mileage wise, for a Duramax. :thumb:

Those are cute for cruising around town and such, but if you want to get some work done get a Ford!

i haven't been actively looking but came across this one today. i'll probably go look at later today or tomorrow and see if it's leaking like a stuck pig.

I know a few people that had problems with the PSD around that year. I think their's may have been a year or two newer. I would say it depends on the rest of the truck. it may not be a lot for the motor? But it could be for the rest of the truck.

the truck was a dud. i didn't even take the time to sit in it or start it. i walked around the outside and noticed a couple of places where the body panels looked slightly mis-matched. then lifted up a corner of the bedliner. where the liner touches the body, the white paint was worn away and a yellowish-orange color was underneath. almost like a highway dept truck or something. maybe ford uses an orange primer :smashfreak: also, the underside had a fair amount of sludge on the bottom of the engine/tranny.......no dice on this one. looks like the 'ole dodge is gonna be around for a while longer.

Come on dude, just head down to the dealer and buy a new one! Help stimulate the economy, it's the only way we're going to pull our selves out of this mess.

The only problem with our answers is that they are based on the same truck.:D

Over all the truck has been great. I have had some stupid problems. Window switch, Injector Driver module, wiring problems. Nothing major though. I have just under 150,000 miles on the clock now, I bought it with 66,000. I would not hesitate to jump in and go any where pulling anything. I know I am on borrowed time on the tranny, but hopefully it will hold up. They seem really hit and miss, but 150k miles seems about the norm for a rebuild.

I would not mind purchasing one with that many miles, but the body around it starts to be an issue. I had to fix the switch that tells the truck that the key is in the ignition this morning. Last week the blinker stopped turning off-Fixed. These are the little things are you are going to get with a well driven vehicle.

I have also replaced
starter
water pump
alt.
Torque converter
Wheel hub assembly
Oil leak on the HPOP

As you can see they are all simple bolt on parts.

When my time comes to get another truck I am going to shoot for 3-5years old with around 50-70k miles. I would not recommend the 6.0 Ford. Way to many people have had problems.

thanx keith. i was hoping you would come across this thread. i wasn't sure how many miles you had racked up yet. i did call kurt to see how many miles were on it when he got rid of the truck. i couldn't remember how long ago that was. the price on those trucks is all over the place! i've found some that are 99-00 in the 10-12k range on up to 17-18k for the same year. i go back and forth on a daily basis on what i want to do with the dodge. but the price is what got me on this particular truck. but like i said, it turned out to be a "no go" for me.

No problem.

I would not turn one down, but if your paid for ride works then keep it rolling.

Also remember that the injectors in the 7.3's, the expensive HEUI's tend to die in the 120-150k range. Expect to pay ~$280 + core for them (each), plus R&R. I think the book pays 8hrs to R&R all of them. That's the big downfall of the motors really.

My dad has over 350K miles on all his 7.3L's (8 of them) and over 150K on the 6.0L's (5). The 7.3's get new torque converters at ~200K, only issues he's had is the fuel heaters built into the filter housing. He tows 10 ton trailers with the majority of the trucks. The 6.0's have had 1 head gasket rebuild at 90K and no other issues.

I've got 40K on my 6.0. 30K of those have been towing the Cigarette, 4 horse trailer, and 10 ton gooseneck with 15,000# dozer on it. Had 1 bad battery, and head gasket done at 27K miles, no other issues. The truck will pull a 30' gooseneck loaded down 75mph all day long and get 12mpg...

While I do agree they are expensive, I have not really heard to much about several failing. Maybe one here and one there, but not to many. Also the aftermarket support has really began to improve reducing the cost and getting a little performance to boot.
