damn damn damn damn.... dunno what else to say......
was out at CB yesterday, ran all afternoon no problems... went to lill sandy for the first time... THAT PLACE DONT HAVE ENOUGH SHORE LINE FOR EVERYONE.... but it was really nice, we went all the way back in to the cove, wasnt prefect sand, but nice enough.
about 6:15pm, we made a few adjustments to the carb, couz the engine was running a bit rich at idle. checked the oil pressure, and oil levels (even tho there wasnt a drip of oil outside the engine, we just wanted to make sure we wernt burning any off after about 4hours of actual runtime, we rechecked the timing to advance it another 2deg. (bringing me to +16).
took off for another run just south of CB, got to about sandy beach and my buddy riding in the back noticed some steam coming from the valve cover breather, we stopped to see what was going on, the furthest most rear bolt holding the valve cover on, sprung a leak (which wasnt there 30 or so mins ago). comming out of the leak was milky oil.... :insane::puke::cussing:
needless to say, i walked around and pulled the dipstick to find that we did indeed have a popped head gasket..... DAMN DAMN DAMN~!
i spent the rest of the evening at the little beach right outside the marina sipping on a rolling rock.....
anyway, im hoping to have it fixed in two weeks.. next weekend we will tare it down, and replace the gasket... the weekend after that, we should be back at sandy.
Is there anything else we should look into to be on the safe side? the engine only idled its way back to the launch ramp after we found the milk.

I am assuming that when you had your machine work done they checked the heads/block for any cracks, right? If so, then it is more than likely a head or intake gasket. I would start with the intake and work down from there. Good luck.

well actually, this is a crate block, cast in 04 if i remember correctly. the heads came from shelby over at the speedway, my friend worked there for awhile (he is the one that put the long block together) so im assuming that everything was checked for any issues before he put it together, but he is back in iraq now, so i cant really ask him at the moment.
im going to start pulling stuff off today, and get ready to rebuild nextweekend
thanks for your support, i hope to see you out there sometime

Well, I would make sure you inspect them as you pull them off and make sure there aren't any obvious cracks that could be causing your problems. Good luck.

yes, will do...
im just going to replace the intake gasket, and the head gaskets, as well as all the others that need to be removed as we tare it down, that way they are all new, then i can go out and test it again, hope that we dont get anymore water in the oil, if so, im going to have a shop handle it from there, im not good enough and dont have all the tools to figgure it out if the gasket replacements dont fix it.
also, whats a good torque wrench? i need to go and get a new one (cant find my old cheap one)

I get my torque wrenches at Sears, but then i'm not a "pro".
What motor are you running? A Ford? Are there issues specific to that engine that could contribute to the milkshake? I'm thinking of the Olds-specific issues like oil blowing out the breathers - there could be issues for your model motor as well.

Same here. Not the best but the do the job for me.

actualy, oddly enough, yes, even with the baffled valve covers, at wot my old engine use to blow a bit of oil out the breather... always thought it was odd, but never really looked into it.
iv not had this engine above 3k so far, so im not sure if its going to do it or not..
thus far all we have found comming outa the breather, was some steam fogging up my chrome.... from damned water getting into the oil check the pics i posted up on the "LVHB member in need topic"

It seams to me that you have over the transom headers on your boat.
If you do the first thing to check is the "T" valve that controlls the water to
the headers, some times it will stick open and you will suck water back into
the engine.
hope this helps

right, i understand that part, and we have always adjusted the ball valve so that it doesnt pass too much water at idle.. however even if it was, the water wouldnt be going into the oil, correct.... it would be causes and hydrolock, becuase water is hard to compress.
please correct me if im wrong.

On my Southwind jet boat I had water in the oil 2 times and both were related to a bad "T" valve.
Idealy there should be no water coming out of the headers until 2000 rpm.
If water is coming out at idle a small amount will end up in the cylinder, which will blow
by the rings and end up in the pan.
A little bit of water from each cylinder and you get milky oil.

well, got the engine fired up today, sounds 100x better then our last trip...
however im still kinda concerned becuase iv flushed the oil 2x so far, and it still seems a bit milky... its lighter than the first/second flushes, but still white none the less....
im hoping that doing it again will help to remove it all....
my biggest scare is that it dont clear up.... indicating that something more serious is wrong...
panic button

You'll need to flush it 5-6 times to get all the water out. Change the filter along with the oil each time or you're asking for trouble.

Are you sucking the oil out or dropping the plug? If you are using the vacuum pump you could be missing the last little bit of liquid in the bottom of the pan which would be water since oil is lighter than water. If you can I would try pulling the drain pan plug.

ya, im using a vac right now...
its clear now... after 4 flushes.... i also changed the filter every time as well.
things are looking fine, im ready for a lake test now...
anyone going out next weekend?
