hay guys. i got the engine running...

I have a couple questions tho... i cant get it to idle smooth when i drop it below 1k rpm.. It idles but its rough, shakes the boat abit also, im not sure if this is common becuase its a new engine, but i think the idle should be lower.. but when i set it lower it seems to get rough... maybe im just trippin out and its going to be a bit shaky at idle, im not sure...

what should i check into? the mix on the carb or what?

also, what should my target idle speed be?

How big is your cam? I just fired mine today, and after the break-in, I got an idle of about 900, up from 700 with the old cam.

The more cam you have, the higher the idle will be. If the engine is not running smooth at all RPMs, then you have something amiss.

Check your timing at idle (750) then up to about 2000K. See if you are advancing. COuld be too soon, too late, not at all. Put a vacuum guage on your carb. 14.7:1 is what you want. Check fuel flow as well. A powerful engine can use some gas and if the system cant keep up it will cause it to run rough. Fuel filters, water in the fuel, etc. There are so many things to think about and check. Go over them again. More than likely it is simple. Good luck
