Thinking something like that to get me back and forth once in while. Anyone on here have any advice? Besides the usual "you're going to kill yourself" stuff - I already get that from my wife.

We can mostly get by on the one car - the Yukon, but since my A6 lease is up I have to do something and kind of want to do something like this for the times our schedules don't work out together.

Get a Honda. Best fit/finish/quality out there. Next would be Suzuki.

CBR1000RR or GSXR1000. Once you get it, I'll get you a deal on a Power Commander and get it over here to be tuned. :)

Not saying it won't be fun to have but won't it be uncomfortable in the summer with the heat out there? What about the times when you have to go on business trips and such? You will look pretty silly with a suitcase on your back! :thumb:

Keith - I think that's a bit much for me right now - maybe upgrade later, but I need something I won't wrap around a lightpole for now. My buddy has a CBR1000 - nice bike! I was looking at the CBR 600 though, more my speed for just cruising here pretty locally.

You make a good point, but I'm lucky in that her schedule is super flexible - she just takes care of the kids. So she can either drop me off and pick me up or let me take the Yukon. And for those other trips - we'll just have to work around, I think we can do it!

It's not a long term solution, but might be fun for a while and would be good to bank some of this money I'm blowing on the boat. It will take me a bit over a year to save up what it's going to cost for the rebuild not including what I paid for the work already. that 1K a month would be NICE :thumb:

Oh yeah - and for July and August it will be miserable, but I can get a one month extension on my lease to the first week of August - leaving me just that month to deal with the really bad heat for this year at least!

OK GUYS - HELP ME OUT WITH THIS ONE - KEITH??

I hear the DMV is backed up over a year for a motorcycle license, yet you can take a 100$ class at CCSN and walk right in to DMV to get a license.

I called CCSN - they're ALL BOOKED through September, and the fall schedule comes out in the middle of AUGUST!

Are there any private instruction schools that work in a similar fashion?

WOW, had no idea.. It took me about 5min, paid $5,- and was on my way. This was a few years ago though, and I did have a motorcycle license from another state.

Yeah - I found a few schools here but don't know the specifics - have emails and calls in:

Motorcycle Skills Training
6261 Bullring Ln
Las Vegas, NV 89130
Phone: (702) 279-7430

MotivationLV (http://www.motovationlv.com/)

and

Cycle School (http://www.cycleschool.com/)

But it seems the latter is ONLY for those at NAFB and the second one is closed for the summer due to heat.

Harley-Davidson has a class called Riders Edge.

They have classes at both Las Vegas H-D and at Henderson H-D

Here is a link to LVHD Riders Edge site. http://www.lasvegasharleydavidson.com/custompage.asp?pg=riders_edge&sid=08763086X6K19K2008J5I41I28JPMQ1426R0

And Henderson H-D http://www.hendersonhd.com/ridersedge_intro.asp

They are a bit pricey but are supposed to be a great class.

I also have a couple of bikes to sell. But there engines are measured in cubic inch's not that metric stuff. And they're more expensive.

What kind of bikes (harley's I woudl assume) and does the Harley class only cover harleys?

GEEZ - the Henderson one is full until September also.

I could definitely go that route - my brother has a sportster and loves it, but never rides it.

In the Riders Edge class they put you on a Buell Blast. http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes/blast/blast/features.asp

The Blast is a 500cc single cylinder bike that looks like a sport bike but has a much more comfortable (vertical) seating position. It is a perfect bike for a novice rider.

The skills they teach are the same on any motorcycle.

I took the (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) MSF course with my wife 17 years ago. At that time I was 23 and had been riding since I was 8 and was amazed at the how much I learned. These courses will teach anyone who rides, or wants to learn to ride a great deal. I understand the Riders Edge class has a little more detail than the MSF course.

The bikes I want to sell are the one we don't ride much. We both have 2 bikes.

Hers is a 2007 Harley-Davidson Screamin Eagle Dyna.

Mine is a 2005 Bourget Python.

Nice - thanks for the input - Go ahead and spam away here, I started the topic so you're cool!

What do you want for each in case someone on here is interested or knows someone? Or just start a thread in the classified section - that would probably be best. But I'm asking so spam on your stuff in here is cool!

My guess - it's WAY out of my league :)

They told me the same thing when I went down to get mine. All I did was go down and sign in on the standby list. The first guy that no shows for a driving test you slide in his spot and you are good to go. I waited 45 min after signing in and I was done. Just be sure and be there when they open and go straight to the driving test booth(all the way on the north end of the one on flamingo) and sign in . Done deal. That is after you have passed the written test to get your permit. Hope this helps.

I will post in the classified later.

I'm going to ask $22,000 for the Harley and $ 40,000 for the Bourget.

The classified section is how I started on this site. Of course now that I've sold my boat and am not working I start posting on here. Go figure.

With gas getting to be what it is I have thought about getting a motorcycle when I get back to the states. I think lots of people are looking to do that. I had no idea about the DMV backup. That is insane.

That's rediculous. I've had my M/C permit since I was 20, so I haven't dealt with that out here.

You originally posted a pic of a 1200, which is why I suggested the 1000's. If you want to start smaller, go for the 600. Plenty of bike for what you want to go. Thing is, if you get into the 1000cc range, you can look into a Sport Tour, which will be more comfortable. I REALLY LIKE the older Honda Blackbirds. CBR1100xx is the official designation. Great all around bike. Very fast, 1100cc but feels like a 750 when you're riding. Linked brakes. EFI after 99. My dad has one with a turbo - my fav motorcycle of all time. Does everything VERY well. Typical Honda quality.

I'm an in total agreeance with Keith, the quality, fit, finish, of the Honda then Suzuki is best IMO. I used to play with bikes asa teenager and the Honda CBR600F_ was always the funnest. Its a great beginner bike and has plenty of power for what you are looking for.... I am currently thinking the same as my office is only 5 minutesaway. But I do wear a suit once a week and yeah, thatwould look just plain silly.

Keith/Robert - I like the CBR idea, originally I was thinking bigger, and I MAY go 1000, but probably the 600 to start until I get some miles under my belt - that's my thought.

I'm going to put myself on the waiting list at the Henderson Harley - it was recommended by the Nellis training course owner - said his guys train at that harley dealership also.

OK - I'm registered for the 9/4 to 9/7 class at Henderson HD - I want to take the class regardless, while I'm sure I could learn to ride from my neighbor or someone and learn the book test I would rather get good instruction - will make the wife feel better.

I'm also on the waitlist for every class between now and then. Hopefully I'll get through earlier.

I'll keep the a6 on a courtesy one month extension through August 5th, then hopefully buy a bike and get licensed right around then. We'll see - you know.. best laid plans blah blah!

If you buy a bike from me (I am beaverretriever and I work at Henderson HD), I will get you in the class for free and I can see if I can move you up a few months. Hell, even if you don't buy a bike from me, I will see if I can get you in the class a little earlier. I always like to help fellow boaters out. I love to see people getting into the sport.

Give me a call on my cell Tues. 702-328-3241. I will be in Havi this weekend, but when I get back maybe I can give you some bike direction as well.

Hi Greg,
You can borrow my dirt bike if you want to learn to ride. The heat kinda sucks there for riding this time of year and it's also very cold in the winter. I had a Dyna Low Rider about the time I met all you guys and got rid of it for those reasons. Wish I had it now down here in So Cal. Seriously though I am coming up there in a couple of weeks if you want to use my bike to learn I will bring it up there. The dirt is a little more forgiving then the pavement. 805-630-9695 is my cell. I will attach a pic

Man - that's a KILLER offer - I would LOVE to take you up on it but don't have any way to get it to the lake bed to ride it. I have probably got a place to store it - Beach Bum (if you remember that turkey) has a shop for his class 7 racing truck that I could probably keep it at, it's in BC - but not sure how to get it to the dirt without a lot of street!! I'll talk to him and see if he has any ideas.

The other thing is how would I get it back to you!

I do GREATLY appreciate the offer!

OK - Beach Bum said his shop is not too far from dirt in BC, I can keep it there and he has trailers too, I could get it back to you also! When would you want it back? I probably wouldn't need it more than a few weeks or a month or whatever it takes to get comfortable on it. I've had quads but never a dirt bike with less than four wheels :) This should be fun!

Waiting to see if it works out, but I realized I'm in PHX part of next week so I don't know how that works with your schedule. I think at this point I'm going to shoot for renting a CBR 600 - actually my buddy is going to rent it and hook me up. He suggested NOT doing it this weekend because of the holiday, so I'm looking at a week and a half. I think that's where you were coming through so if I rent one - and it's likely I will - then I should be good to go with that. Definitely appreciate the offer though!

Thing is I've ridden a street bike before no problem - it was just a while ago.
