I need to get my other trailer ready to go in the next 2 weeks. It's got all new axles under it, but needs the wiring done to the lights (lights are mounted, but not wired yet), the brakes need the lines hooked up and bled, fenders need to be installed (drill the frame for the supports), front saddle block needs to be angle cut, tongue jack needs to be installed and rear crossmembers bolted in.

Would love to find someone that could do this on the side for cash rather than pay the big bucks.

Any suggestions?

Boat is down getting a new cover right now and it blew two hubs on the old trailer on the way there. They were squeaking and have a lot of play when I arrived :(

Bring it here Keith, I have plenty of time off (until the 5th of May, then from the 9th to the 13th) and need to do something before my motors drives me up the wall... Save your cash for fuel, pay me with parts you don't need!

Sounds like you can't beat that offer. Let me know if it falls through. Can't beat free, but should be a good deal.

Kim, you're joking right? :) While I need to get this done, I'm not into exploiting my friends to do it. LOL

Keith, who do you know? When Gene gets done with the cover, I guess the other trailer needs to be the first project.

Not joking at all Keith. I am slowly but surely starting up a shop again. Way to much dead time. Just bring it down, I'll do what you want done.

We need to talk numbers first...don't want to paint myself into a financial corner (the Scarab is already doing that). :) Give me a call at work today if you can. You have the numba. ;)

what kind of shop kim?

While I was fourloughed after 9-11 I fed myself and paid the mortgage by fixing up cars / boats out of my garage. The few customers I had is still comming back and I thought it is time to get a shop going with all this time off. They are saying it will be a lot of flying this summer, but after about three trips I am timed out anyway. If I do start up, it will definantely be boating oriented.

I will call. Going to the lake in the morning with Duncan and is going to hunt for my RPM ghost. If all goes well, I will take it for a spin. We plan on using LV marina since there is no marina there anymore and a wide launch ramp, maybe they will leave us alone with our smoke and test procedures that will prolly occupy that part of the ramp for an hour or so... From Monday thru Thursday I am sitting reserve again and I expect to be called out this time. Off from the 9th to the 14th again though, and will have your trailer ready at least by then...

Sounds great Kim. I should be able to pick it up Tuesday afternoon. Any chance you could get the crossmember done by then? ;)

Yeah, if you pick up the crossmember at Curtis, I will mount it up, no problem...

what all would be involved with going from a surge brake to an electric brake system?

Depending on trailer but normally just unbolt and rebolt, bleed and drive... What kind of trailer / coupler is it? Better yet, post a picture of the coupler and give me the total weight rating for the trailer and I will look it up for you.

James - electric brakes on your trailer would be overkill. Electric is usually for the larger/heavier ones. If you currently have drum brakes a good upgrade would be to go to disc. just my .02

Agreed 100%.. Even a rebuild of the old drum setup will make a huge difference. I just did mine and it is amazing how well they work when things are working the way they where designed to work...

Unless you want to drive over here and do it, we better wait until I get the title back from FL and get it registered at DMV. It's a major PITA to get it out of the back yard...gotta move both other boats and push/pull it in by hand. I only want to do that once more before swapping trailers.

Not a problem. I can drive over there and do the work, then help you pull it to the lake and swap if you want...

Cool. We can get to it whatever day you want next week, except Monday. :)
