:smashfreak:Has anyone done side exhaust? If so can you post some pics? I'm doing side exhaust on the old goat and would like to see pics of how others have done it and tip types.

I've got it on my Velocity. Good luck on the exhaust, if you use anything but stock Merc maifolds you will have a problem unless you have $$$. My CMI's had to have custom tails made to fit the short length for the Bravo drive and the 90 degree elbows with smooth radius turn were $250 each from Stainless Marine. Don't use a short duration cam or you'll get reversion.

The good thing is, that the noise laws state that it has to be from the rear of the transom and with side exhaust it always is below the 88db...

Thanks for the info, I am using the stock merc manifolds, I just bought some stainless mandrole bent tubing for the plumbing and tip, also are internal flappers really necessary for side exhaust? Pics any one? yahoo and google search doesn't have any.

I'll post some pictures of mine. My side exhaust is molded into the hull. It does not use flappers because of the rise. My boat had stock manifolds on it when it had the 454/330hp motor in it, but when the 540 went in I had to upgrade the exhaust. The CMI tails only were $900, then add the cost of the E-Tops and it gets pricey.

Agreed with Panic Button ... plus with all those turns you are killing the purpose of flow through exhausts in terms of performance + increasing reversion potential.

For less dollars you could simply cut and reglass and reinforce the transom for straight through ... a good glass guy and you're set. Had to do this to mine when I upgraded the engine and after 4 seasons, you still can't tell where the old holes were glassed in and reinforced.

:thumbs_up:Well so far I'm in the hole just under 300$ and thats all the plumbing with stainless tips w/internal flaps. The boats just a 99 ultra 21LX with a little 350 vortec motor, so the bends are gonna be less than the factory "Y" pipe, and the ID is also bigger that stock. If not more power, just the sweet sound and the pleaser to piss off the old ladie next door is enough satisfaction for me. Less than 90 days till its go time!

There's nothing quite like firing up the boat next to the house and warming it up with a few revs to see which neighbors come on out of their holes :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:: laugh::laugh:
