Can't seem to find the post that talked about it... What was the trick to disengage the brake actuator if you only have a 4 plug rather then the 5 plug?

The blue wire on the 5-wire plug works the bypass for the brakes. All you would have to do is find the brake terminal (usually brown) on the 4-wire plug and run a jumper wire from there to the blue wire. Then everytime you push on the brake pedal in the tow vehicle the brakes will disengage. This will work fine for backing up....just don't do it for towing! :insane:

flip the connector around to catch the last two terminals of the trailer (which includes the 5th wire) and turn on the truck headlights :thumb:

Is it disc brakes? Drums don't use the lock out.

I tried that and it seems to work fine when backing straight or only turning slightly. But when I am in a tight spot and have truck and trailer at a 45 or so degree angle the brakes lock up. I'm using my dad's truck to back into a tight space he has for me on his property. I can't use my truck because of the extra length. Not sure what the problem is, maybe it's the angle of the approach putting too much presure on the actuator.

can you stop the tongue from collapsing and applying the brakes? Wedge something in there?

I could give it a try. I'm just worried that I might F it up. I'm wondering if maybe something is just not right. Has anyone else had a similar situation? Maybe I'll give Pacific Trailers a call to see what they have to say.

Try going around the block and pulling in from the back?

just cut the brake lines, and then fix them before the next trip.

Get a nice short wheelbase jeep.

The new guy that had the problem at the regatta had a piece of metal that he used to jump it somehow. Didnpt look like something you would use around a wiring harness though. Not sure how it worked but he sure was in trouble when he lost it. He did find it and was HAPPY camper again.

Why not just wire in the right plugs and step into the 21st century?

I have seen a small metal plate that usually comes with the trailers to block the actuator. Most people leave them on and loose them though. A friends yamaha 23 jet boat came with the manual lockout tool. Maybe one from Yamaha would work.

Thought of that... I'm just not sure if that is the problem or not. Seems that the angle of the approach trumps the over-ride feature.

We're actually going to set up my dads tractor to put it in the spot. Just waiting for the parts.

You can come and pick fresh avo's anytime you want. Just watch out for the rock-salt being shot at you.:rollinglaugh:
JK, anytime, you are more than welcome to all the avocados you can eat.
