View Full Version : boat tires
so my boat trailer tires are still the originals from when i bought it. i picked it up in '02. there is PLENTY of tread on them but i'm more concerned with the age of the tire. i would rather pony up the dough and buy a new set than have to worry about finding level ground along the freeway and throw on the spare. and probably a new fender, some gel work etc etc from blowing a tire. they are still holding air fine and they look ok, but they are approaching 5-6 years old. what do you's recommend?

I think you will be fine as long as there is a good amout of tread still left and the tires aren't cracking. My tires are from early 03 and they are in good shape. But if you feel more comfortable with new tires go for it.

Check for any signs of discoloration or spiderweb cracking on the sides. If so, replace. Desert heat does bad things to tires.
Unless stored in a garage with no exposure to heat or sun, I would replace every 4 years regardless.

Keep inflated at max recommended tire pressure. Keep speeds on the highway below 70. You should be fine.

70!!! I WISH!! i'm still running a gasser 1/2 ton suckin' hind tit behind all of you guys with deisels :D
i don't usually run more than 65-67 pulling the boat anyway. and always check my tire pressure so i'm good there as well. so it sounds like i need to make sure i'm not getting any weather cracking. if i've got some i guess i'll be going to see the tire guy.
i forgot to say thanx for the input, it's much appreciated.
