anyone know if they make a product like this?

basically, i dont plan to get the seats and hull redone until next year. However im wondering if they make a spray can of gel coat so that i can at least get the boat to look wet for the rest of the year..

any help on this would be great...
thanks

Wet sand it with some 1600. Then shoot some clear on it.

That will help for the summer then do a paint job.

Gelcoat can only be applied before the fiberglass is being laid. They have products called Imron or Awlgrip that will make your boat look like new again though... Have the same plans for mine, but for now I have some bills to pay before I "invest" the $20.000,- they want to do it for...

Roln 20's Boat Bling has some sauce that may help reduce the fade, Rude on the boad carries at his shop. Also for fadded gel you can use 303 arospace. It will be soaked into the glass and will bring back the color. If it is rael bad you mave have to do it each time you take it out. I used it on a boat up on Lake Erie that was bad and it really helped. I also had an all dark blue baot that I never waxed and only used 303, it kept it like new.,

Have you tried a buffer and some "3M Restorer and Wax"? It does wonders too...

You can spray on gel coat out of a pressure pot or HVLP set up. You have to mix it with a few drops MEKP to activate it. I think you thin it with MEK. It is a huge job and better off left to proffesionals. It will orange peal real bad if it is not mixed and thinned just right. Normally it is done in reverse so the orange peal does not matter because you are spraying it on the inside of the mold over the mold release. I would go out to redline and talk it over with them. I have worked with years ago at Penn Yan Boats and a few times over the past few years. I would not recomend you try it with first some serious study and a few practice passes on some scrap. If it orange peels you will be wet sanding your a$$ for a long time. Stick with the wet sand and a high quality clear coat if it is beyond buffing and waxing.

Ok, well my boat has NO gell on it anymore. the base is in good condition (white) and it has some sparklie green and blue strips on it. But you can feel them, so i assume there is no gell coat left on the boat.

what is my best option just for this summer to get me in the water with a "somewhat decent" looking boat?

should i get some of the sauce from Rude? or what? Basically, i dont care if i have to do it every time i go out this summer, thats fine, i just want something that will make it look "wet" becuase before it drys after i wash it it looks great...

please help me choose a product to use.

Just for the record, i dont have a big enough air compressor and tools to spray anything on without a rattle can/ spray bottle :) my compressor and guns are for models, and airbrushing.. so most of the ideas to sand and spray are outa my league ATM. so im looking for the "cheap" mans fix to this problem...

Anything that i can spray on, or wipe on is perfect, i dont want to sand the boat becuase i dont plan to paint/regell untill this winter. so i dont wanna make it look worse for this summer...

thanks for all the input, lets just point me into the right direction.

get yourself a buffer and some "3M Restorer and wax". If you want to get that new look - start with rubbing compound, then finesse, then "Cleaner and wax". It will look good, and yes you still have gelcoat left...

Stop by one day and I will show you. If you had no gelcoat, the boat would look better on the inside than on the outside IF it could stay together at all..

Gel Coat is paint, It is just a polyester resin base is all.

i guess im completely lost as to exactly what the gell coat is. Seems to me it should make the boats paint look deep and shinny, which mine only looks like that when wet, thats why i thought of that.

Kim, maybe sometime next weekend? as i know your busy with R-5 this comming weekend..
thanks guys

Stop by whenever you want and I'm home. When I work I normally leave town for 4-6 days. Just got home yesterday and will be here until Monday morning....
