View Full Version : SPRINT let me down

Paid $350 for a new phone 5 months ago and it's defective already. Called Sprint and they only cover it for one month. Called the retailer and they want $55 to fix it. They say factory warranty is from manufactuer date and not the sale date and my 5 month old phone was built over one year ago so I'm out of luck.
Does this sound reasonable? It doesn't to me. Are my expectations to high?

Pretty stupid you have to do this on a public forum.
I always take care of my customers, everyone on here will tell you that.
You never called me to tell me you were coming in that day. You were supposed to come in a week ago when I was there.
My cost on your broken flip is $55.00. I was at the doctors office when my employees tried to call me when you came in.
You don't have a service and repair contract on the phone and my employees are trained not to comp any service unless I am there.
I would have taken care of it.
Now that you are being a total dick, I will not.
Take up your issue with Samsung and take your business somewhere else.
You are a complete waste of time to the great folks on this site.

About 2 years ago when my phone went in the lake, John got me a hookup on a replacement since I didn't have the service plan either. His guys copied my contacts over from my waterlogged phone in just a few minutes and had me on my way.
Last week, I stepped up to a new phone and again he gave me the good price. His peeps then copied my contacts again and even though Sprint/Nextel had issues setting up my phone, he called me several times to make sure they were getting it done. I don't have the service contact, so I know if I drop it in the lake or whatever, it's my problem to deal with.
You work with John, John works with you.
Thanks again for the help and service John.

You can spam it on a public forum but I can't share my experience with your service on the same forum? That sure sounds like a good deal for you.
I asked your employee to have you call me last thursday when I was there, here it is on tuesday and still no call. I took it to the forum when I did not hear from you because I thought you were shinning me on.
So it's clear for you, my phone is defective, not broken.
So you're saying I needed to pay extra so my five month old phone is covered by a warranty? That still doesn't make sense to me.
I guess I am a complete waste of time, if that means I'm not going to take your bad service laying down. When you come on a public forum and spam yourself (I understand it's within the rules of the forum) and then someone (me) buys your stuff (2 phones and 2 year contract at full price) and then you provide bad service, I would think the other people in the forum would want to know about it so they can use the information when considering doing business with your company.
As for the name calling, you need to learn some manners. And yes, I'll be glad to help you out with that.

Badaxe - sorry to hear of this experience- I know both you and John well and this doesn't seem like either of you. You are a great customer who I know is valued and John has great products and services from my experiences. You can both help each other out to get this resolved.
As for my recent dealings with John - he went above and beyond to make me happy. I was a Nextel Blackberry customer, my blackberry wasn't working well (probably due to me dropping it 9 million times) and I was ready to buy a new phone. After doing some research and talking with John, I decided to switch back to the Sprint Network and try a Palm Treo 700wx. I hated it from day one but decided to make the best of it. Nearly two months later, my email still was not working right, no one could figure it out and I had a bill that was nearly $700, half of which was wrong. John went to bat for me and had a Sprint Acct VP contact me and get me switched back over to the Nextel Network and another beloved Blackberry (actuall Crackberry -- I need this thing). No local shop would have done that for me. I understand your frustration, trust me, I shared mine with John everytime I told him my phone was a POS. He IS on your side and will take care of - every customer is important.
We are tight community and share all of our experiences. I look forward to reading that John stepped back up and helped you.

Yeah, I paid the regular price minus the discounts he could give me (glad he knew about them...I didn't). My fault for it going in the lake, so I'll pay for my mistakes. $350, that must be one expensive phone. I think my old i530 was $99.

I was more than happy to pay for my mistake. Both times I went and spent my money at John's store I had to drive past about 10 other sprint retailers to get there. I was more than happy to support a fellow boater and forum member. Bummer for me.
And yes, it was expensive.

So am I reading you 5 x 5 that you think those other retailers would have hooked you up in some way that John didn't? I doubt any shop is going to give anyone a discount because they damaged a product.
So in the end, did you get the phone fixed? And what did it cost you?

I don't know if they would or not. I never checked with anyone else because John was my phone guy. When I bought the original phone and two year service 10 months ago (got a new phone for my wife w/2 year contract also)I didn't even bother checking around, I just went straight to John because of his involvement in this forum. 5 months later when I took an un-planned swim with my phone in my pocket I called John and and went down and bought a replacement that day. I never asked for a discount when I bought the phones nor have I in this thread. If you go back and read my posts my issue is with the warranty coverage because my current phone is defective, not broken. I think that a retailer that sells me a phone with a 12 month warranty that has expired 5 months after the purchase should step up and take care of it. That was the point of the thread, I wanted opinions on if my expectations are unreasonable. So Keith don't reply to this post, please go back to my first post and reply to that with your opinion. I would sincerely interested in what you think. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, god knows I've been wrong before. (Just keep that last part to yourself though, I can't let my wife find out that I'm not right all the time).

I said I would not comment anymore but i just have one last thing to say.
John (BadAxe)
Sprint will be crediting your account for the $55.00 replacement part tomorrow morning. You will see the credit on your next bill.
Feel free to go to the Sprint store of your choice (just not one of mine)
and get your phone fixed. You will have to pay the $55.00 no matter where you go.
The invoice you have from my company shows your purchase date and this will allow you to get any and all warranty work done through Samsung direct. The warranty starts from your date of purchase regardless of when you bought the phone.
If you deal with Samsung direct you won't have to pay the $55.00 but you will not get a loaner phone and you will have to wait 2-3 weeks for your phone to be returned.
I am a man of my word. I told you I would take care of this and I will.
Please find yourself a new "phone guy" I obviously did not meet your high standards.
Regards
John

Badaxe, this is what I would expect. How they (the manufacturer) handles the warranty, that's a different story. Working for a manufacturer myself, we typically require the defective part back before repair/replacement. You pay the freight in, we pay it back.

Your explanation of the warranty terms is completely contary to what your tech told me when i was in your store last thursday. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
As for the offer of the credit, I would respecfully request that you do not issue any credit to my account. I promise you this is not about the money it is about the principal of the warranty coverage. I am not comfortable accepting any money from a person that would choose to attack me personally the way you have. Your lowering yourself to the level of name calling is disapointing.
In the end, I'm willing to admit that my expectations for service are high, probably to high and I share responsibility in the mess this has turned into. We will just have to agree that we won't do business together anymore but, I'll still buy you a beer at the lake someday and we'll talk about hot boats and hot chicks, just not phones. Deal?
