Fellows I was wondering what type oil you run? I purchased my boat used and found mobile 1 in the bildge. I have run Red Line 40/wt full synthetic non detergent and wonder if this is a mistake! Should I be using a detergent? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif

I run Amsoil 20/50 in my 454 MPI at the 115* heat of Lake Havasu - no issues.

Run it in all of the motorcycles and the truck.

LMAO, how many do ya got!!?

I have been using Castrol 20-50 HD (Heavy Duty, for harsh driving environments......like heat and high RPMs) and have had no trouble, but will probably switch to Amsoil with the next change.

Thanks, I have heard of Amsoil just haven't used it. Does the synthetic contain detergent. I have a coworker that just attended a seminar with Titan industries, they take used motor oil samples and tell you the history of your motor and they punked Amsoil to the point that he drained it. I will have to get the facts because I have other buddies that swear buy it.

Hey InHeat,
I ran Royal Purple Racing50 (non-detergent) all season. I was happy with all of the results i.e. oil temps, performance, coldstart, etc. Getting ready to buy this years batch and would be very interested in what you find out.
RP, RL, Ams should all be very good products.
Keep us posted.
Thanks,
Dave

i'm VERY interested to hear about what they had to say!!!! to answer you question about a detergent, "amsoil 20w50 has a superior detergent/dispersant additive package that, when tested after tens of thousands of miles of use in the crankcase, still exhibits outstanding deposit control."

"in marine craft and occasionally used gasoline engines, change oil at three times the engine manufacturer's recommended drain interval or one year, whichever comes first."

"amsoil inc. warrants that the use of its lubricants will not cause mechanical damage to any mechanically sound equipment when amsoil inc. products are used in full compliance with amsoil recommendations."

i'm sure there will be different opinions or schools of thought on this subject but here is how amsoil sees it. any engine that uses an oil filter (cars, trucks, boats, etc etc) should use an oil containing a detergent. a detergent oil cleans the inside of the motor as it flows through it. the dispersant part of the amsoil detergent/dispersant additive package suspends the particles in order to get them to the oil filter. an oil that does not have a detergent in it will allow the contaminents to settle in the low parts of the engine. so to answer your question inheat, yes you should use an oil with a detergent it it. i hope this helps.

I have been using Amsoil at the maximum recomended drain interval in all my vehicles for 15 years and have never had a problem. I would highly recomend it. I am a Dealer for it also if you need help getting hooked up.....T
