Hello to everyone out there!!!
My name is Andrew Smith and I am the CEO of Creative Audio. We are a new business that is looking for some boat, etc business. I have been in the audio/video business for almost 15 years. I have installed small and large systems into boats.
I have been in Las Vegas for almost 5 years and I haven't heard of any reliable audio/video shops that are willing to make the drive to someone's house or slip to have some work done.....
That's where I come into play.
Please e-mail me with any questions in regards to audio/video in your boat, car or even house.
Thank you in advance!!!

OK, here's a few questions for you. '06 F-250 with factory six disc changer in the dash. Can I get decent sound using the existing head unit and upgrading the speakers? Thinking of going with a 4 channel amp plus a D class amp for a sub. Who makes a sub that will fit somewhere in the cab (four door) without hacking the interior to pieces and doesn't cost a grand. If I take out the metal foldaway cargo rack that is under the backseat there is room for the amps or maybe a sub but not both.Any Ideas? I don't need to win any awards, just want good clean sound with a little thump.

Trust me, I didn't mean to come on here bashing and stuff, I want to earn the biz and earn the respect.
BSR may know his stuff, and that is cool.
so....
let's start this off a little different....
My name is Andrew
I have been living in beautiful Las Vegas for almost 5 years.
I live in Henderson, but moving to the Seven Hills area.
I have been in this field for almost 15 years.
I have been around boats almost all of my life.
My grandfather, uncles and cousins are in the boat mechanic field.
I used to live on Lake Coeur d'Alene (that's in Idaho)
I have a 9 week old daughter and a 10 year old son.
I am married.
I have an '04 Dodge Truck (it's a HEMI!!)
And my personal car is an '05 Honda Accord.
and here's the kicker.....
almost 5 years in Vegas....and I have only seen Lake Mead from the airplane!!!!
Hopefully, this puts me back on the good side of things...
I didn't intend on pi$$ing people off or creating a bad name for myself.
Happy Boating!!
Andrew

Hey Diggin,
You gotta hear my system. I too retained the stock deck/in- dash changer in my 2006 Chevy. I then ran the JL clean sweep, 1 300 watt JL 4 channel amp into FOCAL mids and tweets in the front and rear doors, a 500 watt JL amp into 2 JL 10" woofers behind the seat. Youu can't see a thing, and it RIPS! Thanks for the support everyone!!
To be 100% honest, I have never done a forum....so I am pretty new at this....
I can say my last big system was over $160K and it's all inside of a bright yellow Hummer....some of you may have seen pictures....or possibly the Hummer itself....
I have done "intense" systems and average joe systems.
So, if anyone has any questions or want to get some work done, let me know and we'll put our heads together to turn some heads!!

Well we all know how well a fart goes over in church, but sometimes it is a great way to introduce yourself…. Welcome to the board, as you can tell we a pretty tight group – we know each other well enough to not sling too much mud before cocktail hour, after a few beers everything goes!
So lets move on… onto the questions at hand. As Kevin stated, I’m not in the audio/video business - my hobby is sound, anyone who has been near my boat or at the house knows I really like my hobby.
Diggin,
Enviroment:
Your F250 has many things going against it, same as mine. First, it has the aerodynamics of a brick, so you have lots of exterior noise entering into the cab. Second, it is a Ford and they are in a mode of cutting costs – your truck lost the under hood blanket, fender skirts, as well as deadening materials inside of the cab. So basically we have the acoustics of a beer can to begin with. Lets address that first before we get onto the other obstacles.
Knowing you, your probably going to keep this truck for ever – I would start with a full roll of BrownBread, thick aluminum sheet on one side with 3/16 of dark gooey stuff on the other, much better value than Dynomat. It sticks to every thing and anything, and it is about the only thing that will help with the environmental issues. Full roll is like $90, you need to remove the front/rear seats, any center console. The carpet comes out in one shot or you can simply lift the corners. The roof panel comes down easier than you think and doing the roof really makes a difference. The most critical areas are the door panels, cover the internals of both the door skin and the door frames, with special attention to the panel closest to the bottom of the door. Eliminating road noise is the primary objective. This is a six to eight beer job, start on Saturday afternoon and finish the next morning. This is by far the most time consuming and least expensive way of producing sound within an F250, you are producing more sound by eliminating the environmental noise. You are also eliminating some of the reflections that occur inside of the beer can, so sound becomes clearer, you will hear more, so you don’t need to turn it up so much.
Components:
The Ford head unit is not bad, it matches the interior, you might have controls on the steering wheel, and it produces decent sound so no need to spend good money on a replacement unless you are going to significantly increase your budget. Unfortunately the OEM speakers in their OEM placement are so so in the current environment – once the sound deadening is in place, especially in the doors – you will hear more sound spectrum from the speakers. Now if we add an amp or two and re-task these speakers then you will be able to gain more sound quality because we will have these speakers doing less work, currently they are doing too much work as they attempt to produce the full sound spectrum being produced by the head unit – those little magnets just can not keep up with the work load, especially if you drive them hard as you are trying to drown out the road noise. More on this later.
Thump and Personal Taste:
Being one of the largest cabs available on the market, Crew Cabs suffer from available space for components such as amps. I had mine placed under the middle seat of the front seat, and under the back seat. Most important consideration is dimensions and quality of amps. I spent good money on an MTX amp to push my sub because it produced quality watts in a small package that fit the dimensions of the space under the middle front seat for the sub I wanted to push – say that ten times in a row. You and your wife like that thump, it is going to come with sacrifices.
Thumping Options:
a) go generic, there is enough space behind the rear seat for a 250w 10” in a slant box. The thump will be weak and muffled by the seat, but a compliment to the capabilities of EOM speakers when properly split and driven by amps – so that the lows are no longer going to the OEM speakers. The compromise is a very narrow sound spectrum for the lows, it will never by crisp, it will never be really low.
b) Not so clean Custom – I’ve seen a few trucks that have used a plasma cutter to remove portions of floor under the rear seat, usually behind the driver due to the exhaust system. Then build a box that is mounted to the underside of the truck with a metal mesh underneath the carpeting. Now you have space for a 500w 10” or 500w 12” – now you have some lower lows but not the crisp sound quality.
c) Clean Custom - Your girls will never be as tall as me, so there is the potential to alter the rear seat. People on thedieselstop.com have reversed/altered the rear seat mounts so that the rear seat is an inch taller and an inch more forward. This opens space underneath for amps or sub boxes, as well as space behind the seat. My first choice is to go after the space behind the seat. If you can gain an inch by moving the seat forward then you have enough room behind the seat for 500w 10” and maybe 500w 12” – Subs this size require a good sized box, the manufacturer will recommend the square footage for the sub – every sub is going to sound different in the space. I would build a sub box that has enough space for two 10” 500w subs, but a unique box. Use ¾ inch plywood for the surface facing the seat back, and anything for the rest of the box – AND, make two separate caverns in one box, one 10% over the manufacturers recommendations and one 10% under the manufacturers recommendations. Now you have an awesome SOUND BOARD like a piano, being thumped by two subs that will generate two different tones so that the SOUND BOARD resonates a fuller spectrum of lows. The two subs can be separated by the amp and either filters or an active crossover – the active crossover make sit easy to tune the subs. This option will produce amazing lows that will over shadow the capabilities of the OEM speakers.. Soon you will want nice 6.5 in front that have cross overs and directional tweaters, so that you can point the tweeters upwards. MQ Quart PCE216. Leave the rear speakers alone since you will never hear the highs from the OEM mounting locations.
Theory:
Lows travel every place, highs are directional. You butt feels the lows and your ears crave the highs and the mids.

Okay....
Good Points, but just a little in-depth (nothing wrong with that)
But...
the new 2005-2006 Fords do not offer much in the "changing" aspects (of course without cutting and fabricating) About 95% of the newer Fords that I have done, as far as bass goes, we installed a Pioneer Flat 12" sub underneath the rear seat. We changed all 4 speakers out to get the best sound quality and made sure that the front speakers are component style speaker. The factory deck does match up very nicely with the factory dash and is very seamless. But as I said before, you sacrifice the sound quality with keeping the factory deck. True, you can do one of those JL cleansweeps, very nice, not too cheap, but nice. Adding Dynamat or BrownBread is a definate improvement. To raise the seats in the rear.... now that I would have to disagree with, besides lowering the integrity of the vehicle by cutting or "adding spacers" to the rear seats, you decrease the safety and can endanger yourself and/or family that might be seated in the rear seat..... Not saying that I haven't done it, I just dont recommend it.
But.... BigSoundRacer has a lot of knowledge, never know....maybe I'll be asking him some questions... Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dunno.gif
And.... I love the "beer" estimation....
With that being said..... Hopefully BigSoundRacer and I can be friends instead of enemies.....

I would not reccomend altering safety equipment either, on the older ones you can flip the Ford spacer that is between the seat and the mounting feet without alteration.

I'm not in the business of selling audio/video, but there seems to be a boat in my garage every other weekend that needs electrical tuning or sound tuning. My neighbors love me!!
I do have a roll of the BrownBread stuff in my garage, your welcome to take a few feet if you want to give it a try. Sounds like you problem might need structural reinforcement to resolve.
I have a similar problem in my boat, the wall making up the open bow has four nice speakers on it that shake the wall creating overtone/distortion – so I had to cut the lows out of those speakers. I know that I have to remove half of the interior of the boat to correct the situation so I’m not in any hurry.
Send me a PM next time your in Havasu and I’ll cut off some of the BrownBread for you.
CA might have some other ideas, he is in the business...

To bad you are in Vegas. My neighbor owns an Audio/Video company. He does house systems but gets a lot of inquires on Car Audio which he refers out to a company. You idea or traveling around should get you some business. I would much rather someone come to my house and install a system in my boat then have to hook it up and haul it around town. Good luck.

you went to Fry's?
With me asking everyone about audio and video here?
http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
hmmm...
anyways.....
Hopefully it's not a Bravo screen.... or a "Fry's special"
wont hold up to the abuse of the waves..
But... you need "direction" on the install?
Let me know...

Did they have a special on that system? Do you need to hook it up to anything else or just monitor and speakers? I'm looking to put a system like that it my cabin too, wifey loves movies....
It is on special $199 for both, DVD is the size of regular radio and uses RCA's to connect to TV, or can be run through an amp, DVD aslo has 2nd input and has wireless headphones.

Okay,
So maybe it's an XO Vision... basically....it's a "swap meet" brand....
$199 for both IS a good price, but remember this.... you get what you pay for....
With the environment of a boat, you need a higher quality monitor and a lot better DVD player.
BSR, help me out on this one? You've been on this site longer than I have, maybe people will understand you better (at least until I get to know people better)
Honestly, you'd be better with a portable DVD player, like the Audiovox "video in a bag"... you can't really "install" it...but it would definately withstand the environmental issues.....
It's just like if you had a hole in your boat, you could put gum in the hole and stop the leak for a little....or fix it right... http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dunno.gif
But, best of luck to you on that.... I can still help you with install questions and technical issues....

http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif it just dont seem right if I dont make my weekly trek to frys. I suspect they screwed you somehow eh.
I have had a couple of things go bad from frys and they totaly hooked me up. One of them was on a washer I bought a floor model that was discontinued and it didnt work when I got it home. So they gave me a better quality one than the floor model at the price of the cheap one that was on sale. So I got a $500 washer for $312 bucks.

Hey creativeaudio what do you recomend for a dvd player and monitor instead of the xo or bravo? And will they last longer than the two year's fry's covers there stuff for.
I have not put anything in my boat beacause I am worried about hammering through 6 foot chop and having it come apart. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/beerchug.gif
I used to work at frys... http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif am thinkin bout goin back part time too... kinda miss the place... and btw the fry's in Las Vegas is thier best store... They dont jack you around like all the other fry's locations..

vmjtc3....
I would definately stay away from anything cheap, cheap...
You buy cheap, you get cheap. You'll be lucky to get a single season of boating out of it.....
I mean, if you want something like that, might as well just take your money to the casino....ya know?
Okay, back to the subject at hand....
It depends on what you have for audio now...
It depends on what your intentions are for it.....
If you want it soley for the kids and be able to listen to something else for yourself (and maybe the wife).... then you'd want to add something totally seperate....
If you want it for the kids later at night... when you are getting blitzed or shaggin' the 'ole lady.... then you could do a portable screen w/dvd and have a FM modulator to run through the stock stereo...or you can do a drop down or a raw monitor flushed into a panel....
Honestly...it all depends on what you want to use it for and how much you want to put in to it.
The way I look at it.... if you love your boat, you wouldn't put a crap engine or prop on it, just to save money...
Let me know a little more details....

Moving Boat + Tini Moving Mechanical Items = Disaster
Some people relate better to beer.....

The "video in a bag" is a good idea!

PRICE OF 2 STANDBY AIRLINE TICKETS FROM LAS VEGAS= 200.00 I THINK IT IS WORTH IT FOR A FREE STEREO SYSTEM INSTALLED IN MY BOAT, WHEN ARE YOU COMING

Ok I am in the same boat as pb on this one. I already have a portable dvd player and video in a bag system. I think I just want something I dont have to load and unload and worry about the kids knocking around or spilling stuff on. So I think I am not looking to spend a whole lot on but I want to spend enough to get something that is going to last me a while. I am ok with installing stereo equipment I installed the head unit and all the amps speakers/subs in my boat. And have built some killer systems for some of my show cars over the years. But my thing is I dont know what is quality video equipment and what is overpriced junk. It works the same both ways. some times you get what you pay for with cheap stuff and sometimes you dont get enough for what you pay for with expensive stuff. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/beerchug.gif

I have had sooo many bad experiences with Fry's that I can't take the time to relate all of them. See the websites where the Fry's dissatisfied customers post. There sales policies and practices such as repackaging returned goods - knowing that the goods were returned as defective - so that some other unsuspecting buyer can have problems is terrible.

Actually.... there is a few more....
I can't remember (for the life of me) of who they are....
Audiovox, yes they make CRAPPY car and home audio, make some of the best screens.... well, best bang for the buck. They are "Grade A" quality screens.....
I would depending on location of where you can mount the screen.... I would go with a nice 7" or maybe even a 10.2" dropdown. DEFINATELY, stay away from the swap meets or the "Frys Special" (no offense, Panic) I would stay away from the Audiovox DVD players though. I would say that the Alpine DVE-5207 is a good player. Pretty cheap... but a really good player...
If you'd like, contact me through PM, and I will try to help the best I can, even if I can sell you one... ya know?

VERY nice monitor, I just bought one today....
They can withstand the abuse.
You'd be better off with the PKGRSE-1...
It has the dropdown, the headphones, the remote, the dvd...
The whole nine yards in a box...

CA - So what do you think about the Pioneer Avic Z-1? What's your price if I install it?
Thanks.
CreativeAudio
03-14-2006, 09:21 PM
Well.... I have been selling Pioneer for over 8 years....
I LOVE Pioneer.....
But...
I do not like any of the AVIC units... (AVICD1, AVICN1, AVICN2, AVICN3 or the AVICZ1)
It is a good unit, it has some cool features and MANY upgrades that the N1 and N2 didn't have... Love the double-din...not having a dvd rom disc for the nav is sweet...bluetooth capable...nice...but only a 10Gig HD for music, in my opinion, is small....
If you live in Vegas, it doesn't give you "perfect" directions...
But... over all...
Good deck.
MSRP is $2250.00... I would say I'd sell it for around $2150.00 with tax...
Supposed to be released this month...
Let me know...
