is anyone planning on going to down to havasu for the parade of lights? me and mrs. would like to go but have never been on the water there and don't know the area. i believe it's on dec. 7. how about some feedback from some of you who have gone before. is it worth the drive?

I'm there most weekends, and yes when it is warm the scenery is great!
Never been to the parade of lights but it sounds like a major spectator event - I'm going. I launch from Windsor State Beach and stay at the Holiday Inn. This past weekend I decided to stay indoors sice it was a bit nippy from the winds, white caps on the water by 9:00 AM.
I'll let you know if I have any space at the storage facility, currently booked. KC

The parade of lights is a cool thing to see. I went last year for the first time and had a great time! As it stands now we'll be heading back this year as well.
Some people launch their boats and then just motor over to the channel, but most just come down and bring their chairs and some firewood/pits and have a fire. Dress warm as it does get very cold at that time of the year.

Ms HL would like to attend this year. Decorating the boat the next few weeks. This will be our first Parade trip. Looking forward to it. Will have plenty of warm spirits to celebrate the weekend http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I am having Ms. HL call Havasu for info on the parade. Will post any important info for the rest of you peeps
donnie, i've never been on havasu but is there a designated place that you guys usually go to make runs like that with reasonable assurance some retard isn't going to cruising through? i'd love to get some of that on video!!! so far, the only people i know of from vegas that are looking at going are BBum and myself. where's a good place to stay? are the boats (and gear) usually pretty safe? you guys are looking to bust 120mph, i'm looking to nudge 80mph. maybe someday http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif hope to see you down there. as it gets closer i'll be asking many more questions i'm sure.

Try the Island Inn, right next to the marina. You can also try the Nautical Inn, overpriced IMHO though. Also, try the Nautical Estates, these are condos that you can rent. not sure about availablity at this time of year though, lots of blue-hairs in town. I've stayed at all three and have never had a problem.
Now, although I was labeled a wuss and asked for it for not wanting to go 100 in a boat, you can make speed runs at that time of year pretty much anywhere South on the lake as there will be very few people out. Just go past Steamboat to where the lake opens up a bit wider and stay in the middle. And dress warm!

Rude,
We usually go down to the Havasu Palms area to do the speed runs, this time of year there is not very much traffic.
There are alot of good places to stay in Havasu...the only one that I hate is the Nautical Inn....cockroach infested shit hole http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif We usually stay at Queens bay or Ramada.
As it gets a little closer we'll make plans to hook up and so some runs together http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Donnie
thanks for input, looks like i have some phone calls to make to try get a room. is it safe to assume that room availability is pretty good this time of year? i'll have to try to score a map of havasu so i can see where you guys are talking about. and as for the speed runs....................HELL YEAH!!!!!!! i had mine up to 70-75 this last weekend. that's about as fast my other half is will to go. i did notice something i'm a bit concerned about with the boat though. at about 65 there seemed to be a rocking i couldn't get rid of. the water was absolute glass and i may have been trimmed out wrong as i'm still trying to learn the boat. is this normal for the 25 daytona?http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif it does have fixed tunnel tabs.
Donnie

Rude,
Don't worry about the porpoise all daytonas do this at about 65 to 70...just need to go faster. If you allready have fixed tabs then your O.K. you might adjust your tbas down a little bit, sometimes this will help. I run mine about a quarter inch down from level.
Just plan on hooking up with us that weekend and we'll show ya the lake and some good eatin and drinkin spots http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I'm not sure of exact names of other close-by places but, it's not too much further down the lake from steamboat. It's a pretty wide spot in the lake and has a long straight stretch.

Havasu Palms is on the CA side, a little North of Steamboat.

UPDATE ON HAVASU PARADE OF LIGHTS:
From the Local Newspaper Havasu News Herald
BOAT PARADE EXPANDS TO 2 NIGHTS, MAKES TOP 100 LIST
With a record crowd expected on both land and water, organizers of the 20th annual Christmas Boat Parade of Lights have decided to stage the popular parade over two nights.
Parade chairman John Richter of the Lake Havasu Yacht Club says as many as 60 vessels could participate in the brilliantly lit procession that will make its way through Bridgewater Channel and under the London Bridge just after dusk on Dec. 7 and Dec. 8.
“We don’t always know how many boats we’ll have until the end, but I’ve had a couple of calls today,” Richter said Thursday. “I don’t think there is a better parade. People from Newport Beach (California) have told me there is not a better parade on the West Coast.”
Apparently the American Bus Association agrees. The organization recently named the Lake Havasu Boat Parade of Lights one of the top 100 events in North America for 2003. The list was published as a supplement to the October issue of Destinations magazine. “The Lake Havasu Boat Parade of Lights offers excellent entertainment value to both tour groups and individual travelers from around the world,” the American Bus Association said.
Lake Havasu City was the only Arizona city to make the list.
“We are honored to receive this accolade especially since this was the only event in Arizona to achieve this national level of recognition by the American Bus Association,” said Bonnie Barsness, president of the Lake Havasu Tourism Bureau.
Dan Cunning, events coordinator for the Lake Havasu Tourism Bureau, says bleachers will be set up for the many busloads of tourists expected for the parade. “So many tourists may come to town to see the event it couldn’t have been handled on just one night,” he said.
According to a study recently completed by researchers at George Washington University, one overnight visit by a motor coach group can leave from $5,000 to $11,000 in a local economy. Those dollars are spent on meals, lodging, shopping, souvenirs and local taxes.
Also expected to visit for the parade are Home & Garden TV and KTKV Channel 3’s Good Morning Arizona. Home & Garden will tape the event for future airing while Good Morning Arizona may broadcast several live segments from the London Bridge.
Last year’s parade, which drew 44 entries and 55 boats, was so popular that parade organizers held up the start for 20 minutes to allow viewers time to park their cars and walk down to Bridgewater Channel. “We had to find places for them to view the parade,” Richter said.
Those interested in entering their boats in the parade have until Saturday to do so. The entry fee is $30. All entrants will receive a participation plaque, and two breakfasts, including one Sunday at the Lake Havasu Yacht Club.
Judging will take place Saturday for 10 individual awards including Best of Show, Mayoral Award and Commodore’s Award.
“People are extremely creative and come up with great ideas. There is no theme. It allows for more creativity,” Richter said.
To enter call Richter at 855-8857 or the Tourism Bureau at 453-3444.

would you consider a whipple for your HP500. I hope to have mine before spring so I can run with some of the slower boys.
i would love to throw a whipple on there but i promised my accountant (mrs. rude235) that i wouldn't touch the motor until the warranty is up. so i've PLENTY of time to save up for one. from what i've read it should make the boat a legit 100mph ride. someday......

For the love of God, leave it stock!! If you don't, make sure you have a good tow rope onboard for us vee's to tow you in when the drive or whatever else breaks!! that's a pretty valid point too. from what i'm told these motors should last hundreds of hours if i can just keep my ego in check and dont mind looking at the transom of Beach Bum's, Donnie's, Craig's and Brian's boats all the time. i've got 3 years to think about it though so i'm not in a big hurry. by then i'll probably want a 28LP anyway http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
