You have probably seen my previous note regarding a gathering on Lake Mohave to raise money for charity, as well as bring together the online communities for a day of kid/dog friendly fun.

OK, I am working on the name and the website, give me a few days....

DATE: Â*Saturday May 3rd, 2003

LOCATION: Â* We have three options..... all on Lake Mohave.

Option 1 - Owl Point Cove (known as LVHB Beach)
Owl Point Cove, 6 miles North of Cottonwood Cove launch.
http://www.boatbays.com/photos6.htm
-- There is a porta-potty there
-- There is lots of room to roam
-- A few very "sandy" beaches
-- A "sandbar" for the adults
-- Great wind protection
-- "should" not be crowded
-- Cottonwood launch is a ways from Laughlin
-- Added benefit of afternoon run up to Hoover Dam

Option 2 - South Haystack
http://www.boatbays.com/photos7.htm
So. Haystack, 11 miles North of Katherines
-- No porta-potty
-- There is good room to roam
-- A few rocky beaches
-- Shallow enough to anchor and party
-- Great wind protection
-- "should" not be crowded
-- Katherines launch is close to Laughlin

Option 3 - Katherines
http://www.boatbays.com/photos8.htm
One of the coves outside of Katherines
-- Porta-pooty depending upon cove
-- Plenty of sand
-- Wakes from boats passing by
-- Wind protection dependant upon cove
-- "certain" to be crowded
-- Katherines launch is close to Laughlin

The actual event area will be posted within the next two weeks. Â*On the day of the event, we will mark the event spot with balloons, making it easy to spot from a distance.

Please take a moment to "vote" on the location, one vote per boat please.

Thanks, KC

I like owl point cove. Should be plenty of room for the amount of boats there could be. If you go towards Katherines that's a long haul for anyone coming from willow beach(if anyone launches there)

I would have to vote for Owl Point. I have never been all the way up to the dam. Still working on time off for that weekend, I'm on-duty Friday and Sunday. If I can get coverage, I'm there!!

Cottonwood Cove:
Hotel or RV 702-297-1464
Currently they have nine rooms left, they offer a 10% discount to AAA members at check-in. Reference "Be Excellent To Another" on your reservation. Rates are very reasonable since they do not go to summer rates until Memorial Day weekend. Ask for a slip.

Camping is "first come, first serve" through the park service.

Lets plan to cook dinner on Firday night and Saturday night at the hotel or LVHB Beach.....

LVHB beach! But, correct me if I'm wrong, there wasnt' too much room to beach and let the dogs roam?

kc0000
10-14-2002, 12:15 PM
with the water so low there is plenty of room to roam! this event will need to be in one of the coves with a beach, not the hillside that we hunkered down in this past summer, hopefully we can find a way to reserve at least one beach....

not certain if the water will come back up or not.... we will figure it out and make the best of it....

I'm hoping that RiverLife can post some "water contaminated" signs the weekend before the event. I will be there late Thursday night. I'll launch Friday, arming the stereo with some really nasty tunes so that I can blast anyone out of the cove, mark some territory with signs and "police line" banner tape. There is allways the torpedo option....

Sorry I couldn't find you kc, but it sounds like you had a good time.
I vote for Owl too. I like Cottonwood because it is in the middle, equal distance for those coming from Laughlin and Vegas and a fraction of the crowd.
The other good thing about the beaches in Owl Cove is that even when the water level is high, they have the most sand of all the coves on the lake, so it should be fine. I'll just have to get there early and put some biohazard signs up or something! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif We'll get them, don't worry!

There was an out-house there this weekend, at Owl(oil) Point Cove, it looked perm.

Hoover is mile marker 63, Willow is mile marker 52, Owl(oil) cove is mile marker 29, Cottonwood is mile marker 22....

I made it from Cottonwood to mile marker 57, and back to Cottonwood on thirty-two gallons of fuel.

Willow does not sell beer....

I'm staying in Cottonwood since I'll be up early that day..... and the previous day...

Doesn't matter which location as we'll be towing up from Havasu in any event. If it's on the south side of the big basin (south of Cottonwood) we'd stay at least one night in Laughlin. If it's decided that Owl Point is the place then we'll tow back to Laughlin or Havasu. We'll be there either way!

Cool! We will almost certainly be using Owl Point Cove for the event on Saturday May 3rd, 2003. In the threads that I have running on the boards, there is not a single mention of anything but Owl Point Cove - I think the pictures say it all!

The informational website will be up this weekend, including photos, maps, the screen names of the people who have responded, their locations, .....

And a big list of stuff we could use!

There will always be something going on, for all of us, its called life!!

Everyone, we must have a good idea here! Â*This is cool!

When we started to think about this event, as a concept, I was guessing that eighty boats would show up. Â*As I started posting, asking for ideas and letting people know that I was looking for a cove large enough to hold eighty boats - a few people fell off of their chairs laughing, including myself!

http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Well guess what...... Â* currently we have 66 boats that have expressed interest - way to go people! Â*If I have missed your screen name, or doubled it up, or spelled incorrectly, or counted incorrectly, please correct my stuff... Â* Additionally, I simply walked through the threads on the various boards and collected screen names, not trying to create any animosity amongst the boards. Â*Please provide me with additions and corrections and I'll get the list updated.

kc0000
11-06-2002, 09:38 PM
somthing I posted on one of those other boards.....

I'm hesitant to disclose too much because I think that some of the ideas are very original.....

But here we go.

Date: May 3rd, 2003
Location: Owl Point Cove on Lake Mohave

My intent has been to create a gathering/event that can involve the entire family, across the on-line communities. If you follow the posts on the boards it is primarily the guys doing the posting, driving the rig, driving the ride. So I'm asking for ideas that can create "involvement" for the significants and kids. So far the ideas are not exactly flowing in... come on guys, get to it!

But there are a few that are drawing significant attention, such as the goodie bag - keep in mind that it needs to be filled with stuff.... the kind of stuff we all get (SWAG), the kind of stuff that we used to find in boxes of cracker jacks. A few people have offered some very interesting items, you'll just have to experience it for yourself. Intention is for each boat and each child to get a goodie bag. So items for the goodie bag NEED to be kid/dog friendly. The goodie bag will also contain a treasure map..... that opens all kinds of doors for ideas folks!

Interesting, the audience that the event is drawing, mature, afluent, caring, fun loving - there are many individuals/organizations that want to get in front of this audience. The last thing we want is a person with a bull horn. If you have a banner sign for your club/business then we have a place for it in the cove. If you have a table that people can walk up to to collect information then we have a place for it in the cove.... sorry, no calls during dinner and no solicitation on the swim step... well, I could make a few exceptions in that area!

The cove. Owl Point Cove, Lake Mohave, is huge and well protected from wind. Some of the features include a porta-potty, kid/dog friendly sandy beaches, rocky beaches, hills, places to camp, a sandbar for the adult crowd - basically enough roaming space for 80+ baots, excuse me, correction, 100+ boats. The cove is eight miles North of Cottonwood Cove launch, the treasure map will include the "shallow route" to the cove for boats that are concerned about lake conditions. Lake Mohave gives us a flexible and some what central location between Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Havasu and Phoenix. Laughlin offers additional entertainment, good room rates and lots of food options. Additionally, for the flatties they can book in Laughlin and if conditions are too nasty for their taste, they can still get in a good weekend by launching into the river. We also have a connection with the rangers at Cottonwood Cove, hoping that we can post some bio-hazard signs the weekend before the event to ward off any advances by unknowing houseboats.

The treasure map... in itself, there are incredible opportunities. In days of old, it is said that people used maps and "stuff" to record their routes to their hideouts, kind of like modern day sailers mark race courses...(hint, hint) Hand the map to your kids and let them navigate from Cottonwood to Owl Point Cove, there will be enough clues and markers along the way for them to tell you where to turn.

More on the cove..... One excellent idea, is to make available colored helium balloons, so that people can mark their boats while parked in the cove, color indicating the neck of the woods that they come from. That provides everyone with a way to meet people that they could hang with in the future, also, how about a contest with some prizes for the kids that meet other kids, furthest distance between their homes.....

If we can do this, and at the same time create some awareness/thought towards making a difference in another persons life, such as contributing to a charity or as simple as offering a person a compliment - then maybe we are making the world a better place.

Trust me, I'm no tree hugger. I'm in it to meet all of the single gals who are friends of your significants!!!!

I hope that this gives everyone some good information, as you can probably read into what I have written, the ideas are original and create involvement for everyone. Now I need help to create more, and bring these ideas to life.

Over Novemeber and December I want to meet with individuals who have the time and interest to help make this happen, to contribute to the design. Then in January, February, and April, there will be a dinner/meeting each month to finalize the design of the event and take care of tasks/assignments. This is not a money making event, it will only be as good as people are willing to put into it. My role is maintain continuity of the design between the teams of individuals in Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas and Phoenix. In each of these areas I'm looking for a person to step up as an "un-official official representative" to help coordinate the meetings, post on the boards like a mad dog to promote the event and answer questions - and take care of lost sheep. After the holidays, say January, we kick things into high gear.

So far I think there are a few items that are attracting people to the event:
- gathering of the on-line communities so we can actually meet
- kid and dog friendly with plenty of space for the adults
- we are organized

Thanks for you support, KC

PS: The hotel in Cottonwood is booked. The website will be update each Sunday night.

Next weekend is out for me, sister is having a house warming. BTW... you all are invited, the theme is Pimps and Hos - I know that some of you might be offended by the theme so I'll understand if you do not show for the house warming. Send me a pm if you are interested in going - Northridge area.

Anyways....
The event took a very interesting turn today... actually many good turns! As I was explaining the event to some friends, two piped up with comments. One offered some resources for the goodie bag. The other, asked my if I had ever heard of abcdefg magazine, lets just say it is a name we would all recognize, like in a heartbeat. Explains to me that the mag is her friends gig and offers to contact her friend about getting involved with the event..... my jaw hit the ground. If this comes through it could mean major exposure. Then tonight we have an offer from an individual who wants to be a sponser.... hmmmmm.... this could all play very well together, from a promotinal perspective as well as for the people attending the event.

My sisters friends and I have done two major charity events. Kind of underground theme events, one raise $4000 and the other about $5000, we had a cast of maybe twenty people to put on the events. Next weekend all of the friends are going to be volunteered to assist with this event, none of them have boats so we need to find some rides.

More later, KC
