I know this is like being as stupid as Cal-Trans asking people to call in on their cell phones to report broken sprinklers - it should create a landslide of responses.....
We would like to get your ideas and opinions, not just yours but of your significant(s) and kids as well!
Please take a moment to read through some of this, you just might be interested!
We, everyone in the online communities, are a great group of individuals who are very passionate about the things we love, our families, our friends, our toys and getting together on the lakes and river. *We would like to create something that launches that passion towards having some fun while benefiting others – specifically charities.
I'm in the process of designing an event for the 2003 season. *Creating an event that brings together the members of the online communities, and their families, for a bit of camaraderie, competitiveness, adventure and fun.
Considering that 80% of the people are married and 50% have kids and/or dogs - we are looking for room to roam, play and party – maybe even cook something to eat.
First of all….. LOCATION:
We are searching for a location that provides the following features:
- shallow enough so that people can get off the boat and mingle
- beach/sand area that is kid and dog friendly
- centrally located between Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix
- deep enough to not worry too much about prop damage
- large enough to hold eighty (80+) boats
- maybe even a porta-potty
As I search for locations, it is very apparent that we need to find a spot that is not already occupied… *The good spots during good weather will probably be taken by unknowing vacationers driving houseboats and not aware of the forces of nature that can be unleashed by a large group of enthusiasts. *To work around these types of obstacles, we will announce and publish a “first stop” location. *At the first stop location each boat will receive a map to the actual event location. *The actual event location will be determined the day before the event occurs, based upon conditions and availability. *People will be able to meet up with others at the “first stop” or the actual event location.
Second…… * DATE:
A date has been chosen by one of the many volunteers working to pull together this event for ya’ll. *Fore mentioned volunteer, not fully aware of what he has gotten himself into, will leak out the date for the event soon. *Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of time to make reservations, do your hair, swap your S10 Blazer for a boat, change the oil in the boat and to get involved in the production of the event.
Third….. *GOODIE BAG:
Each boat attending the event will receive at least one Goodie Bag, additional Goodie Bags will be offered for a nominal fee. *Each child, and child within the adult, will find a full day of adventure and fun in the Goodie Bag. *The first item for the Goodie Bag has been decided upon and is currently being DESIGNED! *That’s right, custom made for you to commemorate the event. *If you’ve ever ridden a motorcycle to a motorcycle event, then you almost know what this item is, except think river…. *Enough said about that for now. *Additional ideas and items for Goodie Bag are welcome! *As well as contributions to the Goodie Bag, time, money, items or services.
Fourth…. *CHARITIES:
Some that come to mind…
www.childrenofthenight.org * Children Of The Night
www.pbtfus.org Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States
Think about it, we are going to sell event tickets that benefit a charity of your choice, our goal is to cover our expenses so that 90% of your event ticket is donated to the charity, thus the ticket stub can then be used as a deduction on your taxes. *And yes, you can buy as many event tickets as you want! *Additional ideas for charities are welcome.
Fifth…. * RULES and STUFF:
Where ever we go, what ever we do, keep in mind that we are ambassadors of enthusiasm for the recreation and sport of boating. *We need to be mindful of the rules, regulations, laws, environment and people around us.
Sixth….. * SAFETY:
Not much to be said here, we all have our stupid moments in life and we all complain about other peoples stupidity. *Lets not create new stories.
Seventh…. *FUN STUFF:
Adventure and fun, lets look at one of the best places on earth for a kids and adults, Disneyland. *There are maps, treasures, dead pirates, islands of mystery and such…. *Come on moms and dads, boys and girls, lets get some creative ideas going here, keep in mind that many of these kids might be as old as you are!
More to follow…. *KC

Way to go KC! Take the Bull by the horns! It all sounds absolutely GREAT to me. I'd love to do Mojave, but I'm not sure if there's a spot like that quite there. I think we need to check out that lake again.
Great ideas bud, Come on LVHB, let's keep the ideas flowing!

KC, what groups are we going to have involved in this? RRX and LVHB, or bigger? I think we should get the RTJas group and maybe others.

lm1 and everyone....
IMHO.....
we invite as many of the online communities as we can manage, we can call this a community event or we can call it a LVHB event..... Greg, you are the first person that I mentioned it to, so we can grandfather that if you want.
today was a great day on hotboat.net.... if I add up the number of people who said they would help or attend then we are well into 28+ boats.... with only a few of those coming from LVHB.....
not one response to EsSex502 for his post on RRX, we'll see if anything shows up tonight....
the folks over at SoCal are going through growing pains, but they will be there....
LOCATION... Being researched by KC and lakemead1.
so far the people want Lake Mohave, I'm thinking Owl Cove with a run up to Hoover Dam in the later afternoon, or maybe Arizona Bay.... on the map it looks like both coves would work out great. Laughlin has cheaper room rates than Havasu. Havasu sand bar speaks for itself, nobody want to take heir kids to the hot spot with the spring break crowd.
EVENT...
so far the people are enthusiastic about something that gives their kids something to do or a place to play - beach area is a requirement
DATE....Chosen by volunteer!
early next season gives everyone time to plan, budget and sike themselves up for the event.
COMMUNITY....
nothing but support for getting together, nothing but support for contributing to charities
GOODIE BAG.... First item presented by volunteer!
we need SWAG, stuff we all get, including the kitchen sink.... I'm thinking a map to the event that looks like a treasure map, bubbles, "top secret item #1", plastic coins good for nothing or something, ome funky sun glasses.... what else?
CONCERNS....
initially I had concerns regarding flat/smaller boats on Lake Mohave , but most of the people from hotboat.net have flat boats in their profile, and thet really want Mohave, maybe they want Katherines more than the middle of Mohave.... The good beaches at Katherines will be too crowded in May. Thi spast season the ride from Cottonwood to to Owl was not bad at all, this season we can use the "fish map" as a tool so that people with flat boats can get up there in the shallower/clamer water.... so I'm no longer concerned about using the middle of Mohave for the event.
IDEAS.... VolleyBall Net and Ball offered!
we need ideas.... I have my own, but I don't want this to be my event, I want it to be everyones event.
CHARITIES.... two, need more...
We have lots of time, we need lots of people to participate and even more to attend.

This sounds like a VERY good idea kc!!!!!!!!!!
As you all know, I'm always down for Mojave ( http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif for some odd reason!! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )
In fact, I am going there this weekend, if anyone would like to meet up and do some sight seeing. I have to agree that if the event is planned for the May time frame, there should be NO problem with wind. Then and now are the best times to go there.
Here is a list of reasons why I like Mojave:
1) Since I own property at Cottonwood Cove, I have gotten friendly with some of the rangers and employees. I could get them to let me rope off all of the coves in Owl Cove (if that is where we decide to do it, which I think is the best spot) so that we are guaranteed enough room to move around and whatever other help we may need from the rangers, I'm sure I can arrange such as parking, a BBQ at the marina, etc.
2) Owl cove also already has one port-a-john there, and there is a great spot in one of the coves to hook up the HUGE slide into the water which happens to be right next to a 50' cliff to jump off of too! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
3) There is plenty of camping on Mojave, and full amentities at Cottonwood; campgrounds, motel (book NOW), restaurant, convenience store, it's right in the middle of Vegas and Laughlin (45 min. to either), and there are two boat runs that are great -- down to Davis Dam, or up to Hoover Dam.
I think it would be a great idea to make part of the event a scavenger hunt. Even give people riddles that they have to solve which will lead them to the "first location". Then once they are there, have more riddles and clues for the rest of the day, ones that send them to certain coves and even sends them to Hoover Dam. If done right, those can be very fun!
I will see what else I can think of, or something I can donate.
Let me know if anyone will be out there this weekend.

The only problem with laughlin for a hotel is that we would have to launch at Katherine, and that sucks sometimes. I would do it though, because it would definitely be more fun at Laughlin - just stick the kids in the arcade!

Last time we drove from Laughlin up to Cottonwood Cove launch, about fourty minutes. The people who launched at Katherines that day got theirs heads pounded in by the waves, fun but exhausting. Cottonwood has a nice, large, under utilized ramp, for the first weekend in May it should be almost empty.
I'm going up to Owl Point Cove (LVHB Beach) to take some pictures either Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. More likely Saturday afternoon.

We stayed in Laughlin this last May on the first weekend. That was the weekend AFTER the annual Laughlin Harley Run and the place was practically empty. Launching for the three days we were at Katherine's was easy as there were plenty of slips available when we walked up to the window at 9:30 on Friday morning and there were lots of available slips on Saturday too. Water was very calm since the traffic was low. Again, I believe, there is a Jetski ban on Mojave and Mead, right? I wouldn't bet that it'll be lifted by May so the traffic would be even less. It was the best weekend on that lake I have ever had!
BADFISH II
10-09-2002, 12:31 PM
Mead and Mohave are the same I think. The ban was extended to 11/6 to 1/1/03, and even that is just restricted use - pretty freaking stupid if you ask me, WTF do they expect to accomplish?

KC - I was thinking about some names and came up with one that's simple but to the point:
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *1st *Annual
* * * * * * * * * *"All Club, Hot Boat Charity Bash"
* * * * * * * * * * * * *Saturday *May 3, 2003
* * * * * * * * *Cottonwood Cove, Lake Mohave, NV *
Also, I think it would *be a good idea to have some banners made. *Two that I can stick on the beaches in the cove so that people attending know that is the spot, and people not attending know that some HUGE event is going to take place there, so keep on moving!! *Another one with an arrow up at Searchlight for people driving in, and one more just before you get to Cottonwood welcoming all attendees and their families. *I'm sure there is someone on this board or another that has a connection in making these, maybe even t-shirts, hats and stickers too.
Just a couple of thoughts.

And excellent thoughts they are!
Beach banners are a must.... banner/signs at Searchlight and Cottonwood is an excellent touch!
Myth has it, that treasure hunters of old….. sometimes left large inflated jewel bags on major water ways to mark the routes to their lairs where they buried their jewels….. kind of like modern sailors mark race courses. Additionally, once in a while a crocodile or two would help mark the way.
As for the name of the event – yours is currently top of the list and something tells me it might not get toppled off of the top!
AWSOME!!
