Is anyony worried about the water level at Mead this year? I remember last year it was pretty scarry. And it is supposed to be 25' lower this year. Anyone hear anything?

I can't remember who started the topic, but someone on the hotboat net site started this and posted some news articles on it. The situation doesn't sound good to me at all, and I'm in fact planning on getting to Havasu more now. The lake is down 35 ft. from 2 years ago, and is supposed to drop something like another 20 or so this year.

What I wonder is doesn't the water get warmer the lower it is? And if so, won't the algea be a nasty problem again. Not to mention the new beaches created haven't seen the light of day in so many years, aren't they going to be like sludge?

I'll look into it some more and keep this topic going, because this is important to all boaters in the Southwest.

Thanks

Greg

I guess I don't konw much about the dams (I need to take that Hoover tour http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) but could this affect the water flow below Mead? coloradoriverinfo.com claims no on the charts, it's supposed to remain the same from Laughlin down to Havasu as it has been. Just curious if anyone else has heard differently. Seems to me that if Mead is soooooo low, there wouldn't be much water to release causing waterways below the dam to be low....... or it could be the contrary, they are releasing so much water it causes Mead to be low. OK, I'm blabbering!!! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Havasu has been up the last two weekends. From what I heard the Sandbar is almost non-existent or at least it's now a wet sandbar. Of course, the water this time of year is too damn cold to stand in anyway. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

I thought I heard somewhere, and I posted the same on hotboat.net, that the level of Mead is being reduced due to that new Reservoir in Hemet, CA. Hopefully Mead will come back up either later in the season or by next year. I don't boat there, but it's a shame to see lake levels dropping.

The sandbar was non existent this weekend. Nothing was dry and almost completely covered with water. You're right HD, the water was like ice and there were all of about 7 boats out there - that's when we headed back up to CC to get an eyeshot of the triplets.

I'll try and get that pic to you tonight.

I have heard a few horror stories from people who have been on the water already. I will try to call a few of the ramps to make sure I can still launch from the normal spots.

If I hear anything I will post.

I was hoping to go out in the next couple of weeks. Let me know what you find out Cole.

Alright here is the deal. I called Calville bay this morning and they said they only have 5 lanes open due to the condition of the ramp at the current water level. She said there is already lines to launch on the weekends, and summer is a few months away. I also called Las vegas wash, and she had about the same news. So for us Vegans who like to hang at Mead, we better hope for some rain soon.

Won't all of the snow melting help a great deal too? There's still a s**t load of snow!

I remember the water level low last year also, and the snow melt did not make much of a difference.

depressing for sure! I hope we get a couple of downpours before the season, but that seems unlikely. I remember a few years back when vegas had the flash flood issue, I think that's what it's going to take here to make any difference - I live on high ground, it's ok by me http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Any recommendations as to the best place to launch? I was hoping to get out this Sunday if anyone's going

Water level a Lake Mead continues to drop. Â*Last Sat. my neighbor who drives a Howard 28Ft. Bullet, Â*launched at Carville Bay and while backing down the launch ramp, boat trailer went off the concrete end of the ramp with the trailer wheels dropping into a submerged pothloe damaging his prop. While every boat has there own launching & retreiving characteristics, this shows even experienced hot boaters can run tinto trouble in low water situations. Â*Very interested in other comments & feedback.

First things first, welcome aboard D2inLV!! Â*Sorry to hear of the water level at Mead, I am a Mojave boater but wanted to take my girlfriend to Mead this year (she's never been), maybe next year if the levels don't improve. Â*My story didn't happen at Mead, but was identical. Â*I was launching at Jack Murphy (I think that's the right name) in Needles early last summer and the water level was so low my 22' trailer went off the concrete, and if you know that ramp, there is a huge boulder submerged in the lagoon type area where you launch. Â*If the water level is high enough you don't have to back down that far so the rock is no problem, but if the water level is too low.... Â*My trailer was jacked from falling off the concrete and my prop had to be cutt off and drilled because of that f***ing boulder. Â*It cost me a pretty penny (or two), but it was fixed and we made Havasu anyway. Â*Actually, if you guys don't mind reading about (3) more pages, I can tell you all of the problems we ran into that day! Â*Short version: Â*we didn't eat dinner until 4:oo am., and didn't get to bed until 6http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif0 am. because of all of the problems!!!!!!!!! Â*Should have gone back to bed that day!

I'm starting a new thread for that story, I want to hear yours too! D', you can tell us how your computer crashed one day, or how your front wheel came off when going down hill on your mountain bike! JK http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif RL , I'm freaking busting up right now at the bike comment. He's actually here in Vegas and I'm having dinner with him and some other friends, I'll mention that one to him for sure.

Oh yeah, What about when the playing cards come loose from the spokes???

Â* Riverlife, Thanks for the welcome. Â*I registered to this page back in March, as boating was one of the main reasons I relocated from So. Cal. to NV 8 years ago. Â*The site is very impressive and I think th informational exchanges are teriffic. Â*I hope to hook up with yourself, and other posters along the Colo. river system this year. Â*I have a new 22ft. Howard Bowrider, blue on white with yellow accents, the one in the Howard booth at the LA show this year. D2.

D2, glad to hear it. Hope you stick around and become a regular, these boards are my fix when I can't actually be out there. Sounds like a very nice boat, have to see it in person (I think I missed it at the show) you have to post a pic of it. And like everyone else, post when you are planning a trip so we can all try to meet and say hi.

Greg, tell D' not to worry, he'll be high and dry, nothing will happen to those Hard Rock playing cards. His bike will sound real neato! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Enjoy your meal!!!!

A bunch of us hooked up last night and hung out at Ghost bar and Rain at the Palms. I threw a couple of the bike comments at D, it was hillarious. We had a great time (can you say hung over?). If you ever get out this way we'll have to have to work out a group event on the lake and then the night scene too.

I love Vegas!

The latest word on Calville is that they're working hard to put the ramp back together. It is supposed to be done and fine to launch by the Poker Run on 4/20. Send me a PM if anyone's interested in going to that.

haha.....you guys got jokes. Dude I have tons of mountain bike horror stories, but I'll spare everyone here from non-boat talk. That gives me an idea. I'll have to run it by Greg first.

I heard new water level numbers on the local news last night. Supposedly, it's not down 20 ft. in the last year - IT'S DOWN 40 FT.! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Doesn't anyone seem to be worried about the lake levels in the government? I guess they don't like boating.

I also hear that it's actually dropping 1 ft. per week now - not pretty.

The good news is I heard as of 1/1/03 all people registering boats born after 83 have to take a safety course - that's good news I think http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Water levels = bad news (not good for you Mead guys, not good for us Mojave guys, your gonna come crowd us up! JK! The more the merryer.... as long as you're all cool and competent. )
Safety Courses = good news (I am taking my girlfriend to a safety course. It can't hurt to learn a little! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

What info do you have on the safety courses. I wouldn't mind getting a refresher course to be a better boater.

BADFISH II

I wish I had more info on that, and I'll try to find some. All I know is it's a good thing that they're thinking about making people take the course to drive a boat. I think it's good news, and I'd take it for sure.

More to come on that, I'll check into it.
