Arizona man dies at Lake Mead
Death of 21-year-old marks year's eighth drowning, spokeswoman says

REVIEW-JOURNAL

A 21-year-old Arizona man drowned Sunday evening while swimming with a group of friends in Lake Mead.

Kay Rohde, a spokeswoman with the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, said Trevor Dinesen of El Mirage, Ariz., was swimming at Sandy Cove around 5:30 p.m. when his friends saw him dive under the water.

Several minutes later, Rohde said, the friends realized that they had not seen Dinesen resurface.

The spokeswoman said National Park Service officials were notified and responded by boat to the area with officials from the Nevada Division of Wildlife.

She said divers found Dinesen's body about half an hour later in 40 feet of water, about 100 feet from the shore. The man was declared dead after attempts to revive him failed.

Rohde said Dinesen had been swimming without a life jacket.

"This is our eighth drowning of the year, and we could have had zero if they had all been wearing life jackets," the spokeswoman said.

Rohde said all of this year's drowning victims have been men, and most of them were young.

She said it often is difficult to know what causes drownings because factors such as heat, fatigue and muscle cramps do not show up in autopsies.

National Park Service officials are continuing to investigate Dinesen's death, the spokeswoman said.

Maybe this is morbid to ask, but does anyone know how to get the job the diver has? I love to dive and I'm always at Mead, I think it would be interesting work. Dusty, Any Idea?

Can you do it "On Call"
