View Full Version : Tickets at Callville

06-27-2004, 07:16 PM
The "water cops" were out in full force at Callville nailing people for sound. Also some obscure Nevada law that states that boats over 26' have to have a BELL along with a horn. Some guy got a $100 ticket for no bell. They didn't ticket him for anything else except that. He was a little pissed to say the least.

Went by Echo and there were about 20 trailers there, the time it took us to get in and out at Callville was more than 2 hours. We will be going to Echo from now on....

Echo is a bit of a drive, but it beats waiting in line at Callville. Plus you don't have to deal with all the traffic in the Boulder Basin. Never been to LV marina or any of the others.

Cruised into Lake Mead Marina at WOT Sat. evening and idled right by the water cops at the no wake buoys ... gave a wave, no problems noise or otherwise.

The "bell" law only applies to vessels on the ocean ... has to do with fog conditions. I'm not sure just what the water cops are thinking, but all is best left alone methinks ... I stay far, far away from Callville ...

does my airhorn count as a bell?
is there a section there about having 2 fire extinguishers? I've already been hassled on that this year, along with the 88db thing

Looked up the Coast Guard and Federal Regs this am:

1. As to a bell, was required on all vessels over 39 1/2', recently changed to all vessels over 65'.

2. Fire extinguishers in simple form, 1 required under 24' (I think, can't remember specifically on length) and 2 required over the footage. Then all other regs. posted require additional.

FIGHT THE BELL FINE IN COURT TO BE SURE!!!

Spoke to Carson City DNR just to question this. They state they can ADD to Federal and CG law but can not take away from it. They said it is never inforced, unless the guy was being a total jerk and they couldn't give him a ticket for anything else.

DNR is full of horses*&t!!! They can capriciously add anything they like, but it will not stand in court if those that are ticketed for the additions take the time to go to court. It becomes about time and willingness to take the effort to have something like this overturned (and pay the court fee for the judge's time, typically $35).

We went in out of Callville Saturday & pulled out Sunday. First time there and the last. The H20 cop at the ramp was a TOTAL asshole. Sunday it was windy and that ramp is a piece of shit anyways. The boat was laying a little off on the trailer so I backed down twice he came over and told us to get off his ramp for a 2 inch problem. I thought Mike was gonna kick his ass right then. Then when he realized we really had a problem, told us to take care of it & hurry. We usually launch out of Las Vegas and we will continue to.

wasn't there some barney at echo a while back that was hassleing people in the same fashion as the a-hole that seems to be hanging around callville now? as far as him kicking you off of the ramp, i don't remember EVER seeing a sign that says you have a time limit to be on it. i don't know that he has the legal right to make hurry off of the ramp.
