I had another blow out going to Havasu last month. Pulled into Goodyear Tire in Kingman and had them replace the blown tire and also the 1 last remaining Carlisle that had not blown , but was close.

I contacted Goodyear tire, they made the batch of Carlisle's that I had. The DOT # starts with "DBKC." I dealt with their Property Claims department as this time, my fender on the trailer was damaged.

They sent me paperwork to fill out and I sent that back along with an estimate on the trailer from a body shop as well as the bill from the Kingman Goodyear store.

Now, 2 weeks later, I received all of the money I requested, no questions asked. They paid for both new Goodyear tires as well as the damage estimate.

Their property claims dept. phone # is: 1-800-322-4682. Make sure you keep the damaged Carlisel's when you replace them. Write down the DOT #'s off the sidewall. They will arrange a tire store for you to drop them at, so they can get them back to inspect. So, check and see if your dot # starts with "DBKC."

My tires were the Carlisle radial ST 205-75-14.

I know many people have struggled with their Carlisle's other than me, so, take the time and see what Goodyear can do for you.

I wish I had known this. I had 2 of them blow out in the past 2 years taking each fender one at a time. I thought they were supposed to be really good trailer tires. I already fix the trailer, replaced the rim and tires just last week.

I started this same thread over on HB and RRX and got some good replies. Apparently, Carlisle is telling dealers to no longer install the Carlisle tires that have an "ST" designation on the sidewall. That is the "old style" that they had all the problems with. Since then, they have redesigned the tire and call it a "radial trail" on the sidewall. These new one's are supposed to be fine, but, you'll still never catch me buying a Carlisle http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/glare.gif

I've had my Goodyear's on for a few trips to the lake now, about 500 miles worth without a problem. We also have the Goodyear's on our 5th wheel trailer and have done a few thousand miles, also without a problem. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

We have better than 5,000 miles on our 2000 Carlisle tires on the Extreme trailer with no incidents and the tires still look like new. Most of those miles are across the Mohave Desert in extreme heat conditions. It helps to keep the towing at 65 or below (I do) and storing the boat/trailer indoors all the time. Also, liberal use of Armour All or some other tire dressing regularly has always been my policy. I check tire pressure EVERY time I tow - even if it's only the 4 miles from the LHC house to the launch ramp.

Every tire manufacturer goes though bad lots and I think from hearing the stories of how Carlisle has stepped up and taken care of the problem makes me feel confident that in the future their tires will be fine. They make millions of tires used for towing. I have heard the same blow-out stories about Goodyear tires as well. The tale I heard is the Goodyear actually made the questionable tires for Carlisle.

Then again...I'll never buy Firestone/Bridgestone tires as they continue to deny that had/have a problem despite overwhelming anecdotal evidence.

Yeah, that last time, I was going 55-60 mph (honestly, ask my buddy's, they get VERY impatient with my slow towing speeds!http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif, tires were right at 50 psi when we left, tires were new enough that they still had the rubber hairs on the sidewall, the trailer weighed in at about 800 lbs. less than the rated capacity of the tires, and the boat is always inside, yet they still separated! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

In March, my buddy got new Carlisle's for his tandem trailer that has a 21' Sea Ray on it, blew a Carlisle the very next day after buying them.

E502, if you have a 205-75-14 Carlisle "ST", then keep praying because you have been VERY lucky so far!

I'll be checking them tonight when we get to LHC. I don't know if they have that designator or not. We don't tow very far as it is.

I admit that my experience with the Carlisle's seems to fly in the face of other's experiences. Knock on wood (my head sometimes!http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Just got off the phone with a buddy of mine. He went to Austin, TX to buy a Chaparral deck boat. He just blew a Carlisle ST on the way back to AZ, go figure. He stopped at Goodyear store to put on all new Marathon's. I still can't believe he drove off the lot w/ Carlisle's on there after pre-warning him to check what type of tires.

Since Goodyear made the Carlisle tires in question...(or so they say)...does it make any sense to switch to a Goodyear Tire?

BTW...Brad...checked the lot DOT codes on mine...they are UUKC prefixed...maybe that explains the success I've had with them. I took all four off of the trailer yesterday to verify and to look them over carefully. Except for road scum, they look perfect. Since I tow at most 8 miles round trip at less than 45 mph at any one place I'll keep them on for a while.

Guess what, I looked at all 5 of the Carlisles on this trailer that just pulled in from Texas. All of them have a DOT # that starts with "DBKC." He blew the one and replaced all 5. Good thing, as the other 4 were getting ready to go also.

What are the characteristics of a tire "that's about to blow"? Is there bulges in the sidewall? Exposed cord? Cracking on the sidewall? Tread separation? Just curious what others have seen so we can all look out for signs of impending failure.

Soft spots on the side walls is a rgular one to look for. These tires I saw yesterday had a realy dark line or mark on the inside of the tire all the way around where the tread meets the sidewall. Another sign of soon to be failure.

Turns out I have DOT# DBKC.

I just spoke to Goodyear claims. They say they only take care of property damage. I never had anything damaged. First tire a month ago bubbled on the sidewall. Second one blew on the road a couple of weeks ago.

They said to speak to Carlisle. Carlisle says they won't touch it because it isn't within the two year warranty period.

I have to replace the tires today as I will be pulling the boat back to Havasu this weekend.

There was a thread somewhere that stated the name of the gal to talk to at Carlisle for this issue. Can't remember whether it was this board or HotBoat's. It's worth a search to see if you can get them to pay up.
