Totally kidding about this, but can you believe the price of this beast. Absolutely rediculous $105,392.00 (not a misprint)
Here's some pics and a link to boattraderonline:

No wonder everyone adds a tower to their boat--and says "wakeboard edition." This market is out of control. To shed more light on this--our top of the line Malibu in 1995 listed at 27K, we paid 22K--today the new version equivalent of our boat is 44K without a tower, around 50K with tower, speakers, etc...
This stuff just blows my mind.

The prices they charge for production boats with their tacky plastic are ridiculous. Our custom boats - especially a Howard are works of boat making art.

no doubt....
I didn't feel bad after writing a 60k+ check for my boat when I saw a 23' ski centurion tested in powerboat for MORE $$$

Who's making the 450HP GM motor that's in the Mastercraft? It's apparently a 496 based design but not Merc. Volvo? Some other builder? Mastercraft itself?
Does Mastercraft measure the length of their boat with the swimstep...otherwise how could that be a 28' boat?http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif?http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif?

I think Indmar does a lot, if not all, of the motors in the tournament type boats.
That thing is FUGLY! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/insane.gif And $105k! To go 45 mph! I think HD is right on it- I believe Indmar is running that industry. I know the Malibu 335hp monsoon that pushes 95% of Malibu's is a Indmar product.
I actually believe that boat is 28 feet WITHOUT the deck-- any ski boat with a removable deck doesn't include that in the length. This thing is Fugly and HUGE, and actually, when seeing one at the boat show- its not that user friendly.
HD- I think even that 45mph may be a stretch http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

You are so right- I'll write a big check to Howard and feel great about myself.
The only thing I can say- I toured Malibu's factory-what a precise boat--every piece is made on a CAD/CNC machine, even the carpet for the entire boat is one piece cut on a CAD machine. I think they make a great product, all in gel graphics (unlike the one stripe on Mastercrap with 4 stickers), but I won't defend their high prices, but when compared to Mastercraft and nautique- what a value, not to mention Tow Boat of the Year 9 of last 11 years. The ski boat industry has to be one of the most profitable.

Patrick...just to clarify:
CAD = Computer Aided Design
CAM = Computer Aided Manufacturing
CAE = Computer Aided Engineering
CAD is for designing the product and CAM is for manufacturing it such as CNC milling, drilling, Multi-axis machine control, Laser and water jet cutters, etc. With all that automation they should be selling their production cheaper than a manufacturer that's less automated and has higher labor costs.

Most recreational oriented companies make good coin as recreational expenditures are usually from disposable income. I can't believe the prices some folks pay for what I consider total crap...Rap albums for example! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

So, let me get this straight- they use a CAD to design their parts and then program their CNC machines to manufacture the product? See, you learn something every day http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
And their product is cheaper priced, but better made! I saw one of those "wet-jet" cutters on American Chopper- that thing is sick.

Yep...that's how it works...
For 3D work such as a hull or machined brackets a company will use something like Pro/ENGINEER, Autocad's Inventor, SolidWorks, Solidedge, CATIA, Unigraphics or some other less well known CAD software. Once the 3D electronic model is constructed it is passed either in its native format or a translated format to a CAM package such as MasterCAM, CAMAX or another package. Some of the higher end CAD software companies also make CAM software - PTC who wrote Pro/ENGINEER also has Pro/NC - same with Unigraphics. Once the 3D model is in the CAM software, toolpaths are created then those are saved as a NCL or Neutral Cutter Location file. That file is then post processed into what's called "G" code and that is what drives the actual machine tool.
Clear as mud? I support this stuff for a living.
