KC,
Happy birthday brother , awesome home, great food thank you for all the hospitality, and if I do sya so myself after a couple of shots of 99 bananas the furniture was actually comfortable, and we are sorry about E-TOW ME HOME -502, but remember he means well even if he can only blow a 72 on db meter.

72 was without really trying! I can do much, much better in the proper circumstance! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

The meter doesn't lock on a reading like a GPS so you have to be pretty agile to "take care of business" and hold the meter and snap the pic all at the same time! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

He broke down at the Sandbar and had to call Vessel Assist to tow him home. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Vapor Lock is the best determination by Mercury Marine and Savage Marine. Both said the same thing...502's are prone to it. There's a tech bulletin about the problem. The good thing is there is a booster pump kit that will be retrofited when I get back to LHC.

E502 - Can you give me some details on this? I have only had this happen once but would like to avoid it in the future. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Mercury Marine's Tech Support cited a Technical Bulletin (which btw is posted on OffShoreOnly) that talks about the booster pump. Apparantly, any authorized Mercruiser Service Facility can order it for you as Mercury told me they won't sell it directly to a consumer. The 502 does NOT have a fuel cooler like the 496's and 525's. This vapor locking in a known problem.
here's a couple of threads I found yesterday:

Thanks for the links. One of the suggestions to reduce vapor lock is to let the engine idle for 3-5 minutes after a long run.
I had a vapor lock situation when we were at Lake Powell last summer. BH, KC, and I went from Wahweap to the Escalante Arm (70 miles one way) pretty much none stop at about 40-45 mph. When we got up there, we stopped and went for a quick swim. I didn't let the engine idle long and shut it off. When we went to leave it wouldn't start....vapor lock. I tried starting it for a minute or so and it fired up. Ever since then, I always let it idle for a few minutes prior to shutting it down, especially when we just finished a hard run. Haven't had that problem again while doing the cool down dealio. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Usually when we are at LHC we hang at Steamboat....I idle all the way in with the hatch cracked open about a foot and the bilge blower on to help cool. Then, while parked, I leave the hatch open for an hour or two just to let everything cool. In our haste to get settled at the Sandbar I idled up the far right side lookin for anyone I recognized the around the main channel...didn't open the hatch though. Was just enough heat to cause the problem I guess.
