Red Horse -- I wish on last weekend, but sick wife and one of my dogs had hip surgery so I was the one to stay home and help out.

Hoping for this weekend and/or maybe next sunday as I have to go to Boston on business for 5 days over Memorial Day weekend. Would rather stay home and be on the water with you folks for sure, and hoping for a peaceful trip and stay on the east coast given the weekend and the terrorism fear.

After this weekend and maybe next, it's June 19th for me.

Good day on the lake ... again, no pics as we forgot to bring half of the stuff we thought about the day before http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif.

Got to talk to Bob and see his new Magic open cat ... REALLY nice ride and good to see some more open party cats with big enough engines to push 'em on the water http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif.

Good to connect the face with Voodoo Child on the boards and chat ... great deal on that SST for sure and good to hear whatever info. folks on the site give you helps!

Sandy Cove was already packed at 10:00 am with folks pushing each other to find a spot on the beach and trash piles building up ... spent most of the day at LVHB beach. Man the water is low ... you can just about walk out to the rock island. Some of the beach has turned into rocky shores, and other parts are now mud. Left and right sides are still pretty sandy, but watch out for some football size rocks here and there when you beach. We picked some up and someone else made a statue out of some more.

Also, there is now a no wake type buoy in between the long rock island and the left shore as you come out of Sandy Cove and go up toward the narrows. Marks a huge rock ledge about 2 ft. or so under the surface. Others are marked on the right shore as you make the turn up around the first bend. Went wheeling through and did not really notice either until I passed by ... weren't marked 2 weeks ago. You can see the rocks right below ... BE CAREFUL as the first one in particular will take your drive right off.

Wind picked up at the end of the day, with some good 2 ft. chop to race home in. All in all another great day on the lake.

Too burnt to go out again today ...

PS -- Water cops were out in force, idled by one on the way out of Lake Mead marina, another one followed me out to the dam from Hemenway wall and marina, blew by another one near Sandy Cove at WOT, gave all a wave, AND NONE OF THEM EVEN BLINKED ON THE NOISE ISSUE ... WIFE GOT A BIT JUMPY (HERE COMES ANOTHER TICKET!http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif, BUT NONE GAVE US A SECOND GLANCE.

I was rather disappointed in LVHB beach as well. It is has always been so sandy out so far, but now the mud is in reach. Maybe water levels will work with us.

Glad you had a good time despite the rocks. Even with my jet I saw a few that were "right there". I am going to start marking them with my GPS and post them when I see them.

Well anyway, glad you got out there and had a good time. Sorry we wont see you Memorial day.

rude, on my Friday lake fly over, I saw every Marina, every beach, cove and island (there are more of them too). Never saw the lake from the air before, completely different perspective. In addition to seeing lots of new beaches (quality unknown) I saw a lot of boaters setting up camps on islands. Have you tried this? I wonder how this works, each group of people had their own private beach with from 1 to 4 boats pulled up. I'll take a look myself Memorial Day...

Back at ya Bob ... you should stand on a beach or dock one day and listen to your boat leave. Nothing like a big hp sound like yours pulling away http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif. From what I have heard that Magic hull is pretty fast ... Advantage is thinking of retooling the 28 hull to keep up.

We came back out on Sun but never made it to lvhb beach. It got real windy and choppy around 2:00. So we just tooled around Kingman wash and the dam and had lunch. I had a backwash through the right exhaust port and and we overheated. Waited about a half hour and started back up and flushed out the water.. I inspected the internal flapper and the rubber seal was gone.. now it looks like I will have to convince the wife that we need some new tips http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Depressing pic of part of LVHB beach. Used to be all sand all the way around. Now some mud spots and rocky areas.

Voodoo Child ... sorry to hear. You might want to have the engine checked. When water gets past the internal flaps it can do some damage even if it restarts and seems to flush. Have a mechanic run it, look it over, and maybe scope some of the internals. Sometimes better a 100 bucks +/- of prevention is worth a bunch more in cure later. Also, thanks for the thought ... I live for the engine noise http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif and it takes alot of hp to push my barge (or so I argue when I want to upgrade).

is there a place to pull up and beach or is it like quick sand where you sink to your knees if you try to get off the boat?

TooMuchFun
05-18-2004, 09:16 AM
The far right as you come in is good sand until you are knee deep and then it turns to a combination where you sink past your ankles. There is another patch of good sand to the left of the island as you come in. Between these two spots, it is all mud and sharp shells and small rocks. I never beach any more as the shore is changing so fast everywhere as the water goes down, you never know what you are getting into.

Agreed with Outcole'd, you need water shoes to run around. My kids got pretty cut up as well.

I drop a box anchor about 20 yards offshore as I come in, then stop the boat with it, then walk a spike anchor to shore from my front ladder (plus of a deck boat). Tie off both ways and let the boat float. I then put chairs, EZ up, COOLER, etc. on shore. If I camp, I do the same thing, just point the bow away from shore for overnight. If I leave, I just tie both anchor lines together and buoy where the tie is ... saves my spot and someone doesn't wheel in and stick my spike anchor in their hull or wrap my lines in their propshaft. Late in the day when some folks come cruising into the beach to the point of digging a trench with their drive I get a little cautious.

Once on shore, the beach is great and there is alot more of it. Mud is just at shoreline and under the shallows.

A hassle to double anchor, but now I don't reglass/touch-up the hull each season and save $3-500. Small rocks and sharp shells were hell on it as I beached here and there as the water went down. Folks would say, don't worry it's all sand here, and then I would scratch all to hell beaching it. I also pulled a few football size rocks out of the shallows where a hull would hit at LVHB beach. I don't need that hassle either.

Hope the desc. of my obsessive activity helps ya ...

Yeah, what RnV said. We are going to look around Memorial weekend and see what is out there. I know that lake well and will find a place that will work great. Also, keep in mind that conditions change all the time and the sand could reappear just as fast as it goes away. Everyone is still coming out and everything is going to be just fine. No negative talk.

Dont chicken out now McD. I know the jet boat ride is scaring you, but still face it like a man and come on out. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Oh just shut up and get to cleaning. I have to clean my boat every time no matter what I do or where I go. Or maybe that is just jet boat pride.!!!!!! Maybe I have a boat worth cleaning all the time??? When there is metal flake mud it will match.

I think a get together is a great idea RnV. We need to discuss lake things anyway.
