Hot boat may want that info. I'm thinking of passing around a clipboard for people to fill out the vitals, I'll find out if that's necessary. I do know they want each boat type, length, year, etc, the basics.

DUDE, you have to go BACK to Willow to pick up Fernando!? I'm guessing he's in LV? If you are back to Willow by 12 then you'll get back to Owl by 12:30, if you leave Owl at 12 to get him you'll be back by about 1:00. Then go back again to Willow!!!!! to drop him off and hit up the dam. DAMN, that's a lot of boating.
Anyway.............
Cottonwood Crew:
- line up in the "prep-lane" at 9:00 and launch (also a good time to reserve a slip if you plan on staying over night)
- group up just outside the no wake buoy after everyone is in the water (about 9:30) and caravan to Owl Cove.
*** if you miss the "launch party" (or don't want to launch that early) hang a left out of Cottonwood Marina, head toward Hoover about 15 min. and look for big group of boats on the right. ***

I can't believe some of your are going to put in at Katherines. I went there today...terrible! The line took 20 minutes to go through, at 8am!
Next, the waves were huge! Umteen million friggin lake lice EVERYWHERE. It was white capping just outside of the no wake bouys.
Stayed long enough to hook up with Party Cat from OP6 and sample the Tri Tip cooked on his barbie, then pulled the boat out and went to Park Moabi and hooked up with Waterndog (aka Sausage Boy). Had a good time down there and the water was much better.

Actually I need a volunteer to pick him up. I realized I don't think it would be smart for me to do it because I've got 6 of us total, and the dog. Not good for his camera equip.
The deal is I need a volunteer to pick up Fernando Escovar at Willow at 12, and bring him to the group. Any interested? I'm not sure how much equip he will have, but we certainly want to make sure that's high and dry and no chance of it getting wet.

I've done busy weekends at Katherine Landing and you might want to move it up a 1/2 hour or so. The last time I was there on a holiday weekend we couldn't get a slip (even arriving on Wednesday before the holiday!http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif and had to launch each day. The Saturday we launched at 7:00 am and had no line at all. However, by the time we tied up at the coutesy dock and waited for the convience store to open to get food and ice we didn't leave the marina until about 8:00. Quite a line by then. Don't know how long it would have taken to get the boat in with that length of line but certainly more than a few minutes. Also, be prepared to be stopped on the way in at the "toll booth" to pay a "daily use fee". That will also have a line waiting. If, by some chance, we don't get a slip on Friday, we'll definitely by at Katherine's by 7:00 just to make sure.

I'll fill the boat with supplies before putting it into the water so that I do not have to wait for the store... Also, we will probably go out for a while and be back at the "no-wake" markers by 8:15... Depart 8:30.

KC, I second all of the above. The wife and I are pretty early risers by nature so the 6:00 - 6:30 thing is no problem for us. We'll be out as early as possible on Friday morning as well and put on name on the waiting list for "Slip Call" which is every day at 1:00. I talked to the store this morning and was told that every day since Memorial Day there has been a "slip call". Our last trip was before Memorial Day and we walked right up and "snagged" one! Oh, well. Best of luck to you KC! See ya' at the slip call Friday.

Dude, I'm feeling the pressure http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif There are a ton of really nice spots around there. Oh yeah, and Fernando isn't going to be to the spot for the shoot until about 1:30, then he has to set up......... so you don't have to get to the water so early if you don't want to. RL, where did you come up with 1:30http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif He gets to Vegas @10, then get's a rental and drives to willow, about an hour I think. He says he'll be at willow before 12, but I'm figuring 12. Then Beach Bum is picking him up at the docks (because I've got a dog and too many people) at 12, and running back to Owl, that should only be 30 minutes right? Especially in BB's ride.
I figure he'll be ready to shoot by 1. That would be great if you can get a houseboat over for an aerial! I'm sure we can get some extra pics of that for a few bucks if anyone wants one. I do, it will be cool!

All very good points. Then I would not be getting up so GD early!
How is the road from the 95 to Cottonwood? Stillplanning on meeting at Katherines, as of now at least, but I'm just curious about the road.

I'm tipping over... leaning towards towing up to Cottonwood rather than launching at Katherine's. My boat loves the chop, but with passengers that might make for a tiring ride, the girls want to researve enough energy to gamble and dance all night. The weather forecast is still predicting 10 to 12 mph winds out of the South..... significant white caps.
I'm launching at Katherine's Landing on Friday morning for sure, depending upon the conditions it might be in our best interest to drive to Cottonwood on Saturday morning. The road leading to Katherine's is off of 68, on Friday night I will leave two small orange cones on that corner if we are going meeting at Katherine's on Saturday morning.
So if the cones are not on the corner, then the wind/lake conditions are indicating that it might be a better idea to drive up to Cottonwood.
Hope this is making sense.....

For the Las Vegas contingent, anyone know how much farther it is for us to go to Cottonwood vs. Willow? Is it worth the drive? or are we better off just going to Willow? My only thought is that if the water is rough, it would be nicer to launch at Cottonwood I would think because it's closer to Owl Cove.
Just a thought, as it stands we're going to Willow.
Another thought, RL you can probably help with this. How far is it to Willow from Owl? Should I have Fernando go to Cottonwood to be picked up?
LM,
First, did you get my package? It should be there by now.
Second, the drive over the dam in the afternoon can suck depending on what is happening. So, figure at least 45 minutes to get to Henderson. But, it is only about 45 min-1 hour to get to Cottonwood and you are on the ramp, right there. I opt for right in the big rig all the way down to Cottonwood and chillin' in the boat. My .02.

According to Mapsource, it's about 23 miles by water from Willow to Owl Cove. I've never seen the water get rough up there, because it's so small and sheltered. Coming out of Cottonwood, it's fairly big water for the first few miles and that can get rough.
Looks to be about 8 miles from Cottonwood to Owl Cove from that end.
Again, according to Mapsource, it's about 27 miles from the 93/95 split to Willow Beach, and about 50 miles from that junction to Cottonwood.
Personally, I believe the smoother boat ride will be from Willow. Willow is also generally MUCH less busy than Cottonwood from what I have seen.
Here is the link to Searchlight, NV weather (http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USNV0081?GO=GO&whatprefs=). That's probably the closest.

Trying to answer everyone's questions:
LM1 - I came up with 1:30 to be practical. Your 1: 00 guess isn't that far off from mine. I was just allowing for the unexpected obstical that seems to happen all too often.
The road to Cottonwood is fine from Needles. It is your typical 2 lane rice road and very straight. Once you get to Searchlight, it's downhill the whole way (about 15 min.).
The weather reports I have seen didn't say anything about wind, but I don't think 10 - 12 is bad at all for Mojave (close to 20, then I may be hiding out in a cove all day).
Yes, the cove we are heading to is very secluded from wind, so we could hang there all day if we wanted, we just have to go through what they call "little basin" to get to it, which can get rough, but not nearly as rough as it's Daddy.
I don't recall the exact GPS coordinates of the cove, but it's just after the "little basin", hang a left around the point, then stay right, you can't miss us. For the Katherine group, stop by Cottonwood if you want around 9:30 and follow us. Or just launch with us.
Greg, I don't know drive time from Vegas to Willow, but it's an hour to Cottonwood. Also, like Keith said, the water just out of Cottonwood can get rough but it's not that far, however, the ride from Willow to Owl is very smooth (most of the way) because it is narrow and flowing (and ice cold http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif ). I'd probably still have Fernando go to Willow, maybe he can get some nice shots of the ride down!

I'll make sure to have the cell phone on tomorrow morning too. We also have an FRS and marine radio for the boat so one manner or the other we can hook up. Not counting the 1:00 "slip call" tomorrow!
Have a safe drive everyone!
KC,
Are you going to be on Mohave friday? I will be at Cottonwood in the morning. Let me know.

Let's call it 11:30 at Owl to anchor up and hang out. We'll actually probably be there earlier, but I'd like to be all set up and tied down by 12 or so, because Beach Bum will be getting Fernando then, and may make it back by 12:30

We are leaving LA at 3:00 AM on Friday, collecting the boat in Havasu, then to Katherine's to launch for a day of play.... I hope to be in the water before 10:00 AM on Friday.
This will be the first time on Mohave so I want to explore the lake, I'll try to make it up to Cottonwood on Friday afternoon if conditions are favorable.
502 we will keep an eye out for you on Friday, 1:00 slip call! We need to decide what time to depart from the Flamingo on Saturday morning, earlier the better to me...

I plan on meeting everybody at the Fiesta Sat morning but I'm launching at Cottonwood. Crossing the dam can be a pain in the ass. If there is one little fender bender or other incident in front of you it can be hours with no place to turn around.

How far is Owl cove from Cottonwood? I have a pretty good idea (I think I have been there before), but I want to make sure.
Where is Speed/Gasoline Alley? I have heard about this place but have never been there.
Currently 11:25
River departure time : Less than two hours.

THOR, about 8 miles from Cottonwood to Owl Cove if I remember correctly - I posted it earlier in this thread but I'm too lazy to go look for it.
I know there is a speed alley in Havasu, not sure about a Gasoline alley in Mojave though.

kc - We've been to Mojave a bunch of times. Let's try to hook up at slip call and I can guide you to quite a few cool spots below the basin. Don't know much past Cottonwood though as we've only been past it once. If we tow, lets leave plenty early as soon as HD can get there. The wife and I are early risers by nature and as long as we get some sleep we can be ready to go at almost any hour.
HD - definitely lets plan to cruise/tow together. Safety in numbers if someone has a problem. I caravaned dozens of times in Mexico and it's nice to have help should soemthing occur. Knock on wood that nothin' does!
Thor - yep Friday at Mojave before the crowds get there is great. Better than Havasu in my opinion unless you really want the "curvy" sites in the channel or at the sandbar. For boating I have always preferred Mojave.

Gasoline Alley is down near Katherine by a place called Telephone Cove (on the AZ side). It's nothing like Copper Canyon, but it tends to get a lot of people hanging out and racing in front of it.

502... HD....
Yes, yes, yes...
Friday tour guide offer - your on!
Safety in numbers, leaving early on Saturday would be very good....
I will check the board at 8:00 tonight for the last time before the trip.
Cool!

of those that are roughing it and camping for the weekend, where abouts are you going to camp? are most of you staying in campgrounds at cottonwood (that is where the campground is right?) or are you planning on claiming a beach somewhere and staying along the river? i am planning on meeting the vegas crew at the fiesta but may follow D4$ to cottonwood since it's about 1/3 the distance to owl cove. any input?

Hey D4$ it does look like me and em will have to get a ride from you if that's OK. Are you launching the same place as LM1? I'm getting a ride down with him. You should go to Hurricane Harry's with us tonite. I'll buy you a drink (or 4) http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Duckbutter, no problem on the ride and I won't even be offended if you boat hop while you're out there. I planned on launching from Cottonwood and spending the nite, but whenever you're ready to head in I'll bring ya.
Rude, I plan on anchoring right in owl cove for the nite. We sleep in the boat so sandy beach isn't a concern for us. If you are going to tent it and owl cove isn't nice enough I'm sure we can find a good beach. Let me know if you need any camping gear.

We will definatly be in attendance. We will be meeting up with everyone in the ready lane at Willow. Look for a White Baja with a Hot Boat sticker across the windscreen. Haven't met anyone from your group yet, so if someone wouldn't mind saying Hello http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif sure would be great.
Thanks Denise & Jay
Just look for the good looking guys and gals with the Las Vegas Hot Boat shirts.
