Did you notice the RRX Havasu Invasion is the same weekend? I just saw that on their site. I guess I'll have to pass on theirs and show my loyalty to LVHB http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Although, I would have liked to have attended both. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

The official first annual THOR regatta is in Havasu that weekend too. Already have about 10 LVHBs going. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

No clue.. I'm sure it's there somewhere.
I'll be hitching a ride with someone at the LVHB dealio here.
So you're not coming Thor? - that surprises me, being that you are one of the originals and an LV boy..

All joking aside. I would love to. But, there will be two generations of father's hangin on Havasu. Its a family thing. I didnt feel it would be right for me to request all you to change the dates and plans.
I will be in v-town this summer hitting the lake though, trust me.

FYI, 1.2 million won't buy shit in this area anymore, my home is only 2100sq/ft and was basically a starter home. Coto De Caza had to build some "affordable homes" as a condition of the county allowing them to build a slew of higher end homes in the gated section back in 1995. At about $355sq/ft, a very common 3,500sq/ft home would cost over 1.2 million. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif
It is BS. The house across from mine is 2500 sq ft and has original (1965) window, appliances etc. It has some new carpet and paint. The back yard needs to be redone as does the kitchen, rooms etc.
It sold for 850K. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

Law of supply and demand. Property owner got it and non-property owners want it. Still a good investment. When Lisa and I bought our current Valencia house back in 1997 we stretched a lot to get into it. Now it's paying-off big time.

Anything above the 1% property tax is due to local assessments or assessment districts. The City of Santa Clarita is well known for getting the developers to pay a larger portion than state mandated amounts for infrastructure such as schools. Also, what constitutes a "family" in those numbers? Income tax makes it look like a family of 9 or 10. That's a 2% tax rate unadjusted for deductions/credits. Also, they'd be living in a $300K home (or thereabouts) for the property tax rate.

I could rant about the gross inefficiencies of the state and federal government for hours, but think about this for a moment; most U.S. citizens (many of us considerably longer) will work until mid June to pay for all the taxes/fees our state, local and federal government receives from us throughout the year.
I feel that it’s just plain wrong that half of everything I’ll make this year will be paid back to the government in the form of some tax or fee.
Essex502
04-07-2004, 09:59 AM
The interesting part of the calculations on how long during the year it takes to pay your taxes never counts the costs returned by governmental services we all take advantage of. It's always about an individual's tax bill and the number of days/weeks/months to pay that bill. I don't know if I've ever seen the calculations on the "average family" and their dollars received in services from the state/local/federal goevernment. Gotta' be something, right?
beer hunter
04-07-2004, 10:09 AM
I'm not sure how or who comes up with those numbers, but assuming they're correct, many of us would be well above the "average" in terms of income and therefore work later in the year to pay off our tax burden.

I didn't go to the link provided but I would imagine that "Los Angeles" probably means the greater metropolitan Los Angeles area. now, depending on who you talk to that could mean all of LA County only or all 5 counties (LA, Orange, San Berdo, Riverside, Ventura).
Rant On:
I have no problem paying taxes for those services that I derive a tangible benefit from i.e: law enforcement, fire protection, defense, street maintenance, etc. I even have no problem paying taxes for some of the traditonally liberal social programs such as welfare and unemployment. The government helping it's citizens when they are down is ok with me, to an extent. Hey....another point....how do all of you feel about your taxes paying for education? A thought...a man and a wife have 2 children. They make the same income as the family that has 6 children...so...they pay MORE taxes both Federal and State Income taxes but presumably less sales taxes. If they live in next door to each other in the same style house and purchased the houses at the same time then they probably pay the same property taxes. But...the family with only two children are subsidizing the family of 6 children, true? The larger family takes a bigger share of the educational dollars from the city/state/government funds. Shouldn't there be a "child tax" so that those who want to have larger families and use more government money have to pay more to cover those services?
This is a controversal issue isn't it.

That's certainly how it works today, i.e. each child gets you an additional deduction for your taxes thus lowering your tax burden. However, picture this...
The more children you have the less you pay in taxes.
The more children you have causes more education expenses to the state thus burdening the tax paying population. (this assumes you are using public education.)
IF you're on welfare the more children you have the more Aid to Mothers with Dependent Children monies you receive - additional burden on tax payers AND you're not paying taxes 'cause you have no income.
The more children you have the additional resources from the state and feds you consume - police, fire, etc.
The more children you have that you can't afford - the more the public health services are consumed - again at the expense of other tax payers.
The more children you have the more waste is produced and land fills are added to thus additional pollution to the rest of the community.
The more children you have produces more sewage that must be treated again at higher cost to the state/fed taxpayers.
On the other hand...
Then more children you have - presumably the more clothes and other taxable items are purchased and hence the sales tax revenue that you produce is greater.
The more children you have certainly costs you more - but...there's no application for having a child where you need to show that you can support and afford them.
Just some random thoughts....
Maybe a national sales tax cures the "lets have more children" issues?
