I finally went out and bought a digital Sound Level Meter to test our boat and any others that might want to find out exactly how load their boat is.
I will be bringing with with us next weekend and be testing Whenever we stop. If anybody is interested hookup with us in Steamboat or wherever on Friday or Saturday.
Accurate to +/- 2 dB on the "A" scale from 50 to 120+ dB.

Sounds great! Have you had a chance to test yours yet? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

That had to cost at least half of what silencers are gonna cost you http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/ohboy.gif

Exactly! If +/- 2 db isn't good enough it means that you're right on the edge anyway. The real expensive ones aren't really that much more accurate.

You know you will be testing the new 525 on Saturday http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif I am sure it will not pass http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif Especially when we were told, the first time we took it out and launched at Havasu marina, that it was awfully loud http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I've got a digital db tester as well ($60 +/- at radio shack as I recall) ... it reads same as the water cops. Carry it on board if anyone wants to experiment when you see me on a beach somewhere. You're going to be surprised at the read in relation to the maximum limits ... 88 dbs is pretty quiet. I'm 96-98 at the transom and am not all that loud at idle. Already made 4 trips out this spring, passed the cops once idling out of Lake Mead Marina without even a blink. No silencers for me http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif.

It's looking like we'll be in Steamboat definitely on Saturday but Friday on the lake is looking a little "iffy". Maybe the afternoon we'll make it out.
Definitely anyone who wants to find out how loud their exhaust is, is welcome.
