Does anyone dive? I'd like to plan a couple of trips to Catalina before the Summer rush.

The water may be cold, but I still think that Catalina is one of the best dive spots in the world. I've been diving all over the Caribean, Mexico, Hawaii, etc. They all have much warmer water, but I still enjoy Catalina just as much. Something about the sun-light through the kelp forest is just very very cool.

I'm certified, but haven't dove in 3 years or so now - really wish I had the time and money to go! Â*I did a deep water dive off catalina (112ft.) when I started working on my master diver cert - ended up just becoming a master .. .. well you know

We used to dive off of the Charisma, mainly Clemente. Our motto was "don't follow us". We would take a shovle so we could get as deep as possible, lay on the bottom looking up watching the rays of sunshine moving through the water - totally narked out of our minds.... best legal high in the world. Or we would ask them to drop us off shore where the water is about 300 feet deep, drop down to 150' or so, at that point you can not tell up from down unless you follow your bubbles, because everything is the same shade of blue, again narked out of our minds. I stopped, my partner continued - two months later she almost broke the record at the Northridge chamber, the record then was twelve sessions and she went 11.

The Pacific is beautiful.

Sounds very cool KC... I've never done anything that extreme. The deepest I've ever been was 125' at Cozumel Island on a night dive. It is definitely easy to lose track of your depth at night or in very clear water.

We lost track on the first day in Cozumel, found ourselves at 150+ because the water had such great vis. Next day we planned our first dive for 185, got there with plenty of air and decided to continue to 225 - not much to see that deep but the buzz lasted all day..... we spend the next day consuming alcohol just to thin our blood. On the last day of the trip on of the girls decided to ride a sea turtle, straight to the surface - we flew into Houston and then to LA, she cried the whole way because of the bubbles in her joints - got her four session in the chamber.

The things I did were extreme, to push my knowledge and experience, so that I did not freak out or do something stupid like ride a sea turtle to the surface. At my peak I could take a breath at 100' and make it to the surface without popping my computer, long time to hold your breath and trust that there is still oxygen in your lungs.

The dive master who trained me was an ex-navy seal and body guard to a brigadere general. His idea of deep dive training was to through a brick off of the boat and say "fetch" - mental but great experience.

I want in. I just dove Catalina in Jan. it was not to bad. I say stay conservative though. As long as I can make the day, count me in. I can make almost any day.
