Maybe my settings are off on the digital (is that possible?) but these pictures looked a lot closer in person. Anyway the following is what I had time to take before the storm rolled in:

A really nice cove with a cliff to jump right next to you!! How convenient!

A huge cove (right next to the one above. It's a BIG bay in there) we've camped there with like 10 different families.

You can't see it, but this is the same bay as above and there is a nice sandbar right in front of me. Might be a good place to anchor for the HotBoat shoot?!?

This is my girlfriend and my favorite place to hang and swim. Nice inlet that's very hard to see as you're cruising by. There are quite a few of these.

The dam is about 9 miles north of Willow Beach. Willow is about 32 miles north of Cottonwood.
RL, was it looking shallow up there near the dam? When I can see the bottom clearly and it only looks 5-6 feet deep, I turn around. I only noticed that on my last trip up there, last Monday.

It usually only takes me about 45 min. Â*depending on speed. Â*I made a lot of swim stops this time (it was only 120 on Sat. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif ) Â*and my seat completely broke. Â*Piece of........... Â* Anyway, you and O1 should definitely quit acting like a couple of pansies and drag those boats out for this. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Â*
Keith, I could see the bottom, but it still looked deeper than most of the places I run near Needles, and I do fine there. Â*I just went SLOW when I got to that point. Â*I would guess it was still more than 10 feet deep.
MAKE THE TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey RL, We are definetely booked for the weekend. I think kvmcd is referring to your trip up river. I've never been any farther up than Cottonwood. Looks like a good trip. Maybe we can get a group of people together after the shoot and head up. Just a thought. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

RL, I just read your thread on the Hot Boat Photo Shoot itenerary. Sounds good to me. Apparently great minds think a like! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

I'm sure we'll do the trip to the dam, probably catching Propman & Keith's water spray for a minute or two! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
That pic was at the lake of the ozarks.
LM1,
The dam ride scares the hell out of me with the shallow water. Props and boulders dont interact to well.
You all drive too fast for me. I cannot catch up with my slow a$$ boat. j/k

RL said it was 10 ft. deep at least, and you got more guts in your boat than I do http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

We're up for the dam. It wouldn't be the first time we relocated a couple of boulders on the bottom, besides I'm sure propman could use the extra business! I carry a spare if anyone does happen to bang one up, it fits bravo one. I also have a large ( six or eight person) tent if anybody wants to borrow it.

after my prop hits a rock, and someone else has allready used your spare prop, the tent could be a viable option... http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

kevnmcd, glad to hear you guys are going to make it out. I was going to have to hate to rag on you guys from now on. Yeah, I knew what you were asking, the ride from Cottonwood to the dam is about 45 min. depending on speed ( I usually go about 45-50 mph the whole way).
Thor, all of the boulders and reefs are marked, or so the ranger said. I just stayed in the middle as best I could the whole way up and it was fine. There is only one sketchy part as you near the dam where a sign says for boaters to watch for boulders, but I went real slow and had my girlfriend look out over the front, but again never saw anything that made me nervous. Also, staying in V-town isn't bad at all, it only takes about an hour to get to Cottonwood from there.

There is nothing out there that anyone should have a problem with at all.

I'm not to sure of the mileage to the dam that was posted. We made the trip up past Willow Beach last year and returned to Katherine Landing where we started and the GPS indicated almost 100 miles. The GPS indicates over 20 miles to the beginning of the big basin BELOW Cottonwood Cove. We probably went 4 -5 miles past Willow that day before turning around as by map it looked much farther than 9 miles to the dam and the water was fast, narrow and I did see some rocks. By the way...we used 45 gallons of gas that day for the 100 miles. That same day we float for a while in the big basin as it was GLASS. Absolutely so calm you could see the desert reflected in the water. That afternoon coming back through the basin very rough.

Yeah, that basin South of Cottonwood can get nasty! We got stuck going thru it one time and felt like we were in the ocean.

I have made the dam trip MANY times, and I would be completely amazed if anyone had trouble. Near the dam right at the hot srings & steam cave it's shallow, but if you stay in the middle you can go right through. The views up there are the best on the river!

Okay, I take it back. Doing a route on my GPS software shows 11.8 miles from Willow Beach to the dam. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

But who's counting when you're pushing 100mph right Keith http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
All I know is that Cottonwood is pretty much right in the middle of Mojave, it takes me the same amount of time to get to Katherine as it does to get to Willow (about 45 min. either way) Both are fun rides.
