Lake Havasu - March 27-28 [Archive]

This sounds like the first gathering of the season on Lake Havasu. Keep in mind that during this part of the year AZ is one hour ahead.

Meeting times and spots:
Sat morning Steamboat Cove so that the kids can climb
Sat afternoon Sandbar so that the kids can run
Sun AM Topoc can serve Bloddy Marryâ€™s after 10:00 AM on AZ time.

Leo and Tracy will be representing the 909 with there kids Brandon an Courtney.

Karen will be representing the 714 with her kids Zack and Alexis.

Air temps should be in the 80s, water temps will be butt cold!

Yeah, put the boat into 4x4 while you are between Laughlin and Topoc. Might want to leave you anchor in the truck, that might help make the boat lighter so it does not have so much draw - but then again, the rocks should do a good job of holding the boat out of the water.

I'm working on a killer new version. After my trip to Cozumel and Cancun I'm convinced that the best marg is made with a simple syrup as the sweetner using less Triple sec or Cointreau and more tequila. These two liquers adds too much of an alcoholic wang. The margs down there were so smooth and refreshing, zero alcoholic flavor and completely kicked my ass. I think the Nautical has more rooms available for what its worth.

Thanks for the invite but we have a bunch of us that go out with our sons and do the camping thing. We have a 9 year old boy and 13 year old girl. Hope there are others there age to pal around with.

We will be going out to the Havasu house on Thursday night and plan on being on the water on both Friday and Saturday.

Exactly! We usually stay to the upstream end where it seems to be a little better....but if it is too busy it gets bad up there as well. We will just have to play it by ear.....like E502 said, we can always head down to Steamboat or we have a few nice spots up from the sandbar that we can go.

There is a great beach just south of Topock a few miles. Its longggggg and sandy. In an area where you can watch boats fly by too. Pretty cool.

We have on board at all times the FRS, VHF and cell phone just in case.

FRS is a good idea but our old ones (2 years now) aren't the 5-mile dealios that are now available. We generally use 11-0 as the channel since nobody is ever on it.

This is a good idea so that we can try to all hook up sometime during the weekend.

I have four radios (two in the boat and one in the truck) the other one is a floater) and was thinking about picking up two more. They are also great to give to the kids when they are out playing and you need to call them back home.

It seems a shame to replace good units that are only a few years old with ones we will use so infrequently. We use our existing ones around the launch ramp every boating day. How often we'll be hooking up with a bunch of folks might only be once or twice a year.

Radios are great to hand to the kids, they will be five feet from each other and still talk over the radio.

We use ours at the ramp and to talk between boats with other members. On the water all of the radios are useful for about a mile, beyond that the just do not work.

11-0 works for me...

Just got back from Havasu today. Spent the last two days at the Nautical in 95 degrees with light winds. Hope you're ready to party T&B cause there's two hundred college kids there partying through the night just waiting for you. Hell, our association is so strict they made one of my neighbors paint the gazeebo over his spa white to match the trim on his house. It was a beautiful redwood structure before having to trash it via painting. He fought it all the way to court and lost. Ended up having to pay plaintiff attorney's fees on top of the cost to paint. He moved shortly thereafter. Our CC&R's state we can only park an "RV" in front of our house or on the property for 2 hours or less while loading or unloading. It cannot be parked longer on the property unless totally enclosed within the garage. They get pretty nasty over violations.

Most peeps will tell you once a season as it is cheap insurance against overheating. Â*IMHO...if you have not sucked up any sand or foreign materials, you should be able to go every other season at least....65 hours isn't that many. Cool I think we will be leaving Fri morning till sun mid day also... We will figure something out. As far as 35lbs goes working nights and not eating dinner is the key.... I will tell you what if anyone is intrested in loosing lbs just skip dinner I works... Â*I got a little heavy during the summer about 220 and now Im between 185-190. I still need to to tone up but im happy untill I drink all the beer this summer and have to do the same next winter...LOL

Leo - if you take your boat in to get it serviced on an annual basis (which you should do whether you do it yourself or pay someone else to do it) I believe it is incredibly cheap to replace the impeller at the same time. VERY, VERY cheap insurance. I just replaced mine and the old one looked pretty good but I'll keep that as a spare in the boat just in case. I have replaced mine 4 times in 4 seasons but have only 91 hours on the boat. I don't believe in taking chances like this.

What has worked in the past in Steamboat rafting up right off shore for those not comfortable with beaching it.

We're up for most anything except heading to the Sandbar.

We won't be on the water 'till late morning on Friday due to a commitment to get the HDTV cabling corrected in the house. We should be on the water by 11 or so.

Saturday - early day planned as there are no local commitments for the day. I think a early (<8:00 AM) run to Topock for breakfast would be cool. Then ending in Steamboat for us.

The Sanbar will be almost normal on Saturday - the Spring Breakers have been devistating Copper Canyon. This past weekend you could walk from the lake to the back of Copper Canyon by tip toeing on boats - though the CO might kill you in there.

If you want to burn some extra fuel, head North in the early AM from the lake up to the gorge, float down through the gorge since it will be nice and calm, then head down to Steamboat, then London Bridge Resort for lunch and to let the kids swim in the pool since the lake water is butt cold, then up to the Sandbar to start the horse shoes.

Costs nothing to tie up at London Bridge during the day, costs you a nice margaritta as a patron of the bar to let the kids play in the pool - best kept secret of Havasu.

We'll try to hook up with everyone in Steamboat Friday morning but it will be later in the morning as we have an appointment to get two more rooms wired for HDTV at the house at 8:00 to 9:00. The boat and trailer are ready - it's just a matter of getting the cable guy to run to cables from the dish to the junction box and were on the water 30 minutes later. If we don't see you guys will look for you at the London Bridge for lunch.

I've had the Herradura Reserve - very, very good but I think not worth the uplift in cost over the Reserva de la Familia from Jose Cuervo. The other - Don Julio 1942 - I haven't seen yet...Don Julio Anejo is one of my favorites in the mid range tequilas.

T&B gets the award for attracting the largest crowd!!!!

We pulled up at the Sandbar, there must have been a hundred people standing around T&B enjoying the whip cream festivities occurung on the bow.... Â* sweet!

Well we missed everyone on Saturday but meeting everyone out on Friday was great.

We went to Henderson, NV. on Saturday for the Dogue De Bordeaux dog show. Â*We now have a new pup. Â*We lost ours earlier this month after 12 1/2 years.

She is a female, 12 weeks and 27lbs. Â*Sunday we found she loves the boat and water even in the windy conditions. We named her Sage after we found she loved to rub herself in one we have at the Havasu house. She also has very green eyes.

KC and Leo that was us in the white suburban going through Barstow to Victorville with you guys.
