If you guys haven't seen it yet...Powerboat Magazine has a great article on the types of fiberglass mat used in building boats. They include pictures of each of the mats and a description. Pretty cool if you're into the techie stuff!

Good article ... I've seen it. I'm considered a nerd when it comes to this stuff. It's important info. when considering purchase of a boat, and the article makes you realize what crapola is sold at the production level ... cheap matting, minimal layers of mat and gel, usually production laid in a poor mold.

Whenever you consider buying a boat, ask about matting materials, layers of gel, where the struts and reinforcements are in the hull and of what material, whether hand laid or vacuum bagged, how tested for evenness of layers (usually an infrared heat gun), etc. and etc. Makes the difference when you are cruising along at WOT and pounding on rough water in terms of durability ... all you need to do is see one Bayliner hull cracked and apart to see the critical difference.

That is why I stick to the "custom" boats. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
