A buddy of mine wants to put xmas lights on his boat to cruise the harbor. What power inverters will give you the best results? Would like to get as many strings of lights as possible on it. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Kevin, it’s all about watts http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Tell your friend to figure out how many lights he'll use, then add up the total watts from everything he is going to plug into the inverter. Then choose an inverter that meets his needs http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
kev, from what i saw at the last parade there were a number of people that were using generators. i'm not sure if he's wanting to go hog wild on the lights but the ones i saw with the generators were running a TON of lights!

He had thought of that also...but that was a little more than he wanted to do.

Yeah, I have found one for $60 that will do max 1000 watts and 800 watts continuous.

Mcd, I thought you were an engineer? Do the math for him and send him a bill. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

800W continuous... Ohm's law.... 115V.... about 7 amps worth of lights. Does that help? Look at the U.L. label near the end of the power cord for the current draw in amps. Be sure you add up all of the strings of lights and you should be alright.
