Tool Biatch? If you do contact....No strEssex! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif This man can pass you any kind of tool you need...as long as you have it in your tool box cuz he doesn't have a tool box. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif All of you are probably reading this going "what the hell is he talking about?" Well, let me tell you......

Saturday morning we go down to the docks to get out on the water. We get ours all situated (...meaning stocked with lots of beer http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) and start to head out for the day. As we pass Kurt on the way out of the "no wake" zone, he says he is taking on water. Sure enough, his automatic pump is almost not even shutting off it was coming in so fast. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif He says it is coming from the bottom of his motor somewhere. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif So I jump on, take a look and sure enough, the casing on his water pump is cracked half way around the whole thing. So we head over to the marina...I needed gas and he went to the shop. While I am filling up, Kurt comes up and says the have the parts....do you have any money? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/ohboy.gif So he gets the parts and we head off to the cove where we were going to hang for the day.

Once situated in the cove, I climb in the engine compartment and get to work. Kurt says....just let him know what tools I need and he will hand them to me. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif Well, I got it off and we switched it out for the new parts and put it back together. I think it took about an hour or so and the "No strEssex" barge was as good as new. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

One word of caution.....make sure you have a good, high volume bilge pump cuz the water comes in pretty rapidly with a 1.5" hose open to the lake! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

I think Kurt's buying me beers while we are at Powell, what do you guys think? http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif j/k Kurt....just glad I could help. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif At least I know how to do mine when the time comes. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Having a good tool biatch sometimes makes the job so smooth. Especialy if the biatch will fetch you a cold one when yours get dry, without being told!

Kevin, Funny you should mention this. Now that I'm transporting more than myself and beer (kids and wife), I am growing more paranoid and am constantly thinking of worst case scenarios with the boat and taking on water. Because of this, I just bought an additional automatic bilge pump that I plan to locate at a slightly higher location than my primary pump for emergency pumping that the primary can't handle. This should cover me for everything short of ripping off my outdrive http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
Oh, I also keep a spare new impeller AND housing in my boat. I don't trust plastic in this heat!

If I weren't so mechanically challenged, I would have been right there doing the job. Atleast I handed you the right tools when needed AND had plenty of cold beer on hand.

Besides, I brought cold beer and pizza out to the tow barge that night. I figure you got to make up for your weeknesses someway. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Just trying to repay you for the "screen door" thread. Â* http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ...and yes, I didn't have to explain to you what a ratchet was and the difference between a 10 mm socket and a 1/2" socket. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Like I said above....you were a GOOD tool biatch. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Not a bad idea, MOW. I am also looking into carrying a spare prop as well. You just never know when something might fail mechanically and when you are out in the middle of the lake, it might take you a while to row your boat to shore. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif

I have lots of spares on my boat. Water hose, spark plugs, gas, even 2 paddles. And a damn good bilge pump.

BTW, I thought performance boaters dont work on their boats, much less others. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Next time you have to change that pump in the water, put a garbage bag around the lower unit to stop the water flow. Makes it a bit easier.

Funny coincidence...I just had the boat in for service a couple of weeks ago and they found when they ran the motor that I had a small leak at the water impeller housing (I think it was) and they had to replace it. Wasn't plastic though - heavy casting - probably aluminum. It housed the impeller which they also replaced as it was due for its annual replacement. Luckily, we caught this off the lake.

Been there done that, not too much, but enough. Â*The girlfriend says when we go out for a ride she just sits there and enjoys the ride. Â*But it doesnt matter if I am driving or riding I am on edge, stressed, listening to evey little sound the boat makes. Â*I hate fricking rowing, and being towed. Â*And since we almost always have gone by ourselves, the thing I fear the most is getting totaly stranded, need to get a vhf, I guess. Then again maybe I am just paranoid or a big fraidy cat. Never the less I stil manage to have a blast everytime.

One of the first boating "accessories" I bought was a Raytheon VHF. Always in the boat along with a cell phone. One should work.

What sort of price range are we looking at for a vhf?
Gonna go shoping for one right now.

You can check them at West Marine and Overton's online. I'm sure there are many other sources as well. Can't remember what I paid for mine as it was longer ago than yesterday. Damn Alzheimer's. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I have pulled at six or seven boats off of Havasu, when ours died everyone just drove by and waved.... Cell Phone, marine VHF...

After reading this I'm adding a second bilge pump this weekend!

Does anyone have a line on one of those instantly inflated life rafts???
