Willow Beach is probably the easiest of all ramps to launch from in this area. When you are taking the boat out of the water though, you will notice the current but it is not that bad. Make sure and pay attention to the Flat Wake Zone for the entire rive in that area. If you go up-river about 3-4 miles, you will see a larger inlet on the left, which is the Hot Springs. Stop there an tie up. Watch your prop entering the cove, as there are BIG BOULDERS on the bottom, but, the water is so clear that you can see them and navigate right through and around them.

I launched from Willow two weeks ago and cruised up to the dam. It's a very low key, easy ramp to launch from (like JKPruitt said ). Gas available right there. Great cruise up to the dam. Water is very cold. Have a good trip.

I have an idea. Will you come over and place your ear right up to my exhaust and I'll crack it. Then, you can tell me if I am in compliance.

We went by Willow on our way to the bottom of Hoover Dam about 10 years ago. The place was empty except an old couple staying in a trailor watching the grounds. Apparently Willow was built in a wash & a bunch of people died or got hurt during a storm. Anyone know the skinny. Just curious. I wasn't aware it was open again until recently.
Thanks

Are you confusing Willow with Nelson's Landing where 9 people died in a flash flood in the early 70's? Or did it happen at Willow also?

Mike, I was thinking the same thing about Nelsons Landing. I know that Willow used to have a motel there, but they closed it due to flooding. I was not aware of any people dieing except at Nelsons Landing.

I could be mistaken between Nelson & Willow. This is a resort close to Hoover Dam, about 15 miles or so as I remember. Was Closed 9 years ago. Never new the name actually. Assumed it was Willow. This place was a ghost town with the exception of the old couple watching the place.

Willow is great!! I wouldn't waste my time at any launches at the lake because of the water level. I usually put in at Willow and shoot down to Mojave for the day. If you go to the hot springs make sure you tie your boat up. Last time I did that I went up to the springs, got back to the beach and my boat was gone. It broke loose and floated down to the next cove and was banging on the rocks along the shore.

I've heard the rumor that they wanted to shut down Willow beach because it was dangerous if there was a summer storm and I guess that is why isn't as developed as some as the other ramps. Nelson's is where people died a while back although the ramp used to be in the big open wash that is now all barricaded off. If you have ever been down there you will now what I'm talking about. Nelson's would be awesome for Vegas boaters if it was paved and you could launch there if you wanted to, but it is a rough ride in, there is limited turn around area, three or four mile tow in on dirt roads, and a little bit of a rough element hanging around your truck while your boating.

I've read a few articles, over the years, calling for the reopening of Nelson's...just the ramp and a small marina. They wouldn't allow any other development. The argument that it is too dangerous to reopen because of the 70's flood deaths is a little too conservative considering that the actual 70's flood conditions are considered even more rare than a 100 year flood. How cool would that be to have a decent ramp that close to Vegas? Probably never happen though...
I agree with John K. I put in at Willow and went up to the dam then back down to Cottonwood. I think Willow is the best ramp and will be even better when the dam bypass is done (they officially broke ground last week ).

I've been so lucky in that I've been to Mojave 3 times and had damn near glass every time. I don't know if there is a good time of year for wind/no wind but I've heard it can get treacherous especially south of Cottonwood
