Is there a difference? Â*Any opinions?
Personally, I believe that if you don't have to adjust your carbs at least once every trip to the lake...your not a true Hot Boater. Â*So, that rules out all the guys with fuel injection....sorry.
And, if your just an idiot with too much money to spend and barely know the difference between the "bow" and "stern"... you shouldn't qualify either.
Of course, Infomanic's definition would probably be even more harsh...if you have anything less then 700hp on a 19' flat bottom, he might vote you out of the club...(Have you seen his video with him and his boy shooting up the river at about 100mph)
Anyway..... Â* Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Even if you dont have to deal with the carbs, there is always something to do. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I enjoy working on my boat. A few things I will have done, but not many.
On the weekend use the boat, during the week set the mixture, wash and wax, polish the valve covers, check everything out. Fire it up on the garden hose just to piss off the neighbors. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Well, I guess by adjusting the carbs, I mean doing all those things that keep a boat in tip-top shape... We hand wash ours, wipe down the interior, polish the exhaust tips and prop, etc etc...after every use. Some people only do that once a year.
I'm not trying to pick on anyone, I'm just kind of in a bad mode today...I think I need a beer or two...

I lead a busy life and perfer to spend more of my time just driving the boat and hanging out with friends and family than constantly working on it. I remember when I first bought a JetSki (yuch) ... one of my friends was that kind of guy that always had to change something in the name of going faster...well he spent 90% of his time on land tweaking this or twiddling that and little time enjoying the ride. I, on the other hand, bought it bone stock and left it that way. Started every time and ran all day.
When I bought the boat I swore it would be the same way. And yes, for the most part I don't fiddle with it. Cleaning and caring for the boat is another story - endless one at that! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I did the fiddling thing back when I had hot rod street cars and bracket racers and then NHRA stock and super stockers. Don't have the time for it now. My motto: "Leave it alone and let someone else do the annual maintenance and adjustments to it!"
I guess that makes me - what? - a performance boater?

I GUESS I WOULD HAVE TO SAY I GRADUATED FROM A HOT BOATER WHEN I HAD MY FLAT BOTTOM WITH BLOWN OLDS MOTOR AND THE V DRIVE AND I WAS A LOT YOUNGER AND NOTHING BETTER TO DO BUT WORK ON MY BOAT ALL WEEK TO REPAIR WHAT I BROKE THE WEEKEND BEFORE, TO A PERFORMANCE BOATER WHO HAS A TURN KEY BOAT WITH A WARRANTY AND 2 KIDS THAT TAKE ALL OF MY FREE TIME , AND AT THIS POINT OF 13 HOUR WORK DAYS I WOULD MUCH RATHER ENJOY MY TIME ON THE WATER RELAXING AND NOT WONDERING WHATS GOING TO BREAK NEXT, ANYWAY HOPE YOUR DAY GETS BETTER

http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif WOW someone here knows my frustration. When I first herd about the "Las Vegas Hot Boat Club" I was real jazzed!!!! I will meet people in vegas with boats like mine. Boy was I ever wrong!!!!! Everyone here is sooooooo cool but I just don't fit in. The first time out with a few of the guys (first time putting in at a paved ramp in 3 years) I got a noise ticket http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/glare.gif I feal I am a true "hot boater". Me & my 4 year old son are always doing something to the boat (weather it needs it or not). If I had a turn key boat I would have to find a new hobby. I love to wrench on the boat http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif 700+ HP is a must http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif for any true "Hot boater". Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of hot boats in this club & the wife is on me all the time about getting one. Growing up, when you herd of a "Hot Boat" it was a boat like mine.
Hope I didn't piss anyone off!!!!!!

I guess I would agree with most everyone on here, I don't have the patients anymore for all of the wrenching like I used too. I would love if my boat was faster, but not so fast that I was taking bets as to when it would break down.
A buddy of mine is a "Hot" boater, and that's why we are always taking my boat out instead of his. It was too temper mental, and I like to get away from the marina. You can't go very far in those boats.

Okay, I feel better now... And for the moment I'm still in the Hot Boater category...that may change in the future, but for now there's nothing better than a big blower motor to get the blood pumping.
My stock Baja from a few years ago I had to be towed twice in one season...my blown Eliminator has only let me down once in the last 1 1/2 seasons and that was last week with a blown drive...so I'm not doing too bad so far..
See ya on the lake......

hell, i guess i'm just a fisherman http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif i guess i tend to disagree on the definition of a "hot boat". i grew up in the midwest surrounded by tournament ski boats (ski nautiques, master crafts and our hydrodyne). i never saw boat like ratacole's until i moved out west (southern AZ) i was probably around 10 or so when i saw my first tunnel hull. it was powered by a large v-6 evinrude and was the BADDEST thing i had ever seen!! i swore i would own a tunnel some day. i don't think there are many boats in this club that can keep pace with keith's and propman's boats, besides ratacole's. if you don't think thier boats are "hot boats" your crazy. both of them require a good deal of "tinkering" to get them just right and a great deal of driver concentration. my boat on the other hand, get in, start the key and hammer the throttle. a monkey could probably drive my boat fast, and in fact a monkey has been seen driving my boat on occasion http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif is my boat a hot boat, i think so, but i'm pretty biased. mi dos pecos http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I think the definition, or lack thereof, is based on different generations opinions. Â*Rude's boat is badass but I think the old school guys (doesn't mean older Â*http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ) like myself who built their blown flats, daytonas, cruisers from scratch over the course of two winters would call their boats hot boats where Rudes boats was purchased from a dealer exactly as it is today. Â*I think the terms are loosely defined from the amount of time a boat owner has put in into building or upgrading his boat. A lot of guys see someone go out and buy a turnkey $60,000 boat and they don't want to call it a hot boat because it wasn't "created" or heavily modified by the owner in his garage. Â*For the record, I was a hot boater and now I would like to call my self a performance boater because I now get more satisfaction from actually using the boat instead of working on it.

I pride myself on doing 90% of my own work and when I take the boat out, I am confident in its reliability. I think it is a reflection of my, or anybody else's attention to detail when your boat is clean (at least when you get to the ramp) and runs well. As far as what makes you a Hot boater or Performance boater, I am not sure that the two are that different. I guess I would be a Hot boater as of now, later when I have kids and the like I will have my 28-32 foot fuel injected hot boat I will still change the impeller, outdrive oil, engine oil and all that stuff. I really enjoy doing things to my boat, or any boat for that matter. I dont think I will ever get rid of my 1969 model jet boat. Just make it a little faster. http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I totally agree with you on this one RH. You can pay someone double what they are asking to do the work so that they will do it right and they still f*ck it up. There are some very capable do-it-yourself'rs out there and they do excellent work. I personally have found that I just don't have the time like I used to....kids, sports, house/car maintainance, etc. to do all the things I like to. I have found that I would rather pay someone to do it for me so that I have time to go the river/lake and relax.

Been too busy to read this whole thing until now, and that was just a quick scan.
For the record, LVHB is what it is and that is what you all are, nothing more nothing less - boaters. If you're a cool person with a bayliner, that's great by me. If you got a 100K super fast bitchin looking Cat, that's fine by me. I think it's fine by everyone in here. The only reason I called it LVHB when I started it was because it sounded good, and a friend of mine - CJ from so cal hot boats had his going.
Hot boater or performance boater - it's all semantics to me. I agree with Aquaholic, just show up to the lake (and for the record guys I'm sorry I haven't been out, but I'm sure you understand I've got my hands full for a bit http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif )
Personally I suck at tinkering and fixing things, so I just want a turnkey boat that always starts (except when my batteries die). It seems the overwhelming majority of issues I've heard of from all of the boards is when you change things from stock to not stock - but that's just my two cents.

What’s wrong with being a backyard mechanic? If you do your shit right you don't have to wrench on it every time you take it out. Plus, there is a allot of pride when people (including people in this club) tell you your shit is BAD ASS & you did it all your self, including paint, in your "backyard". I am not a "performance boater" at all. To me 90% of all "performance boats" look the same (S models) & anyone with $100,000 can be a performance boater. Take Prop Man, STV Keith & River Life.... Their boats look different (not an S model) but are BAD ASS. You people give Jason so much crap about his boat, when he fired it up it turned everyone’s head on the dock. Plus it takes allot of "backyard" stuff for your boat to be in the triple digit club. You know, that’s why its hard to find any one out on the water because every ones boat looks the same (S model). Granted I have not seen everyone’s boat that’s in the club, but you will not have any problems finding River Life, Prop Man, STV Keith & myself. All of you performance boaters have nice rides & my wife loves those kinds of boats, so I will one day own one (along with my flattie). So just because you don’t know to change your oil in your boat yourself, don’t bag on the "backyard mechanic", who you would never buy a boat from, because chances are that 75% of this club is a "backyard mechanic".

I probably do around 90% of the maintenance/up-keep/improvements(whatever you want to call it) on everything I own....which includes everything from landscaping to computer repair to engine overhaul. Â*If I can't take care of it myself, I normally get rid of it at some point. I just hate being at the mercy or operating off the time table of other people/mechanics. Plus, I just like knowing how things work and then if something does get fucked up I have no one to blame but myself. Â*And hopefully, I'll never have a job that takes away from my extra time so much that I won't have time to "tinker" anymore. Â*But that's just me...

There's nothing wrong with either approach: do it yourself or paying for it. There's hacks on both levels and there's professionals on both levels too.
LM1, I think everybody loves the name, were just debating...Everyone's opinons of this issue are as different as the boat paint jobs in this club. It comes down to who likes to work on their boats, who doesn't, who has time to work on their boats, etc. Lots of shades of grey...no absolute black and white rules.

I put River Life in this because his boat is different. I like boats that are different & yes I have seen it and herd it run. As far as him not knowing what a wrench is, he was not the one running his fingers about being a "backyard mechanic". I have no problem with someone not knowing what a wrench is but I do have one with someone who puts other people down for their knowledge. For all he knows we could all be retired marine mechanics. He thinks he will have to "tow me in" & "thats what boating is all about" BULL SHIT. If I recall when we went to the river last time: one performance boat made it just out of the wakeless before we all had to turn around when he broke. Then MoTown had to be towed & his buddys top(I think) fell apart. I also think River Life towed another performance boat in. Just because I dont have an S model doesnt mean my ride needs to be towed because I do all my own work, thats bull shit.

This is not directed at any one person, but I'll just mention that one thing that keeps this forum so awesome is that we all get along. We're all entitled to opinions and we can agree to disagree. I like it that way and I want to make sure you all do as well. Please take a second to remind yourselves (everyone) that we all boat the same lakes and we all have a great time doing it. That's what LVHB is all about!

That Bayliner thing intrigues me. Lets take a 18 footer, take out the V-6 and install a blown something with quiet exhaust, make it look ugly and old and really surprise some people. It can be a club project http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Or we can make it real nice. Whatever http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

For the record: Ratacole, Riverlife, Vegas Ultra, and Money Pit can confirm that, yes, I actually have a boat! http://www.lasvegashotboats.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I even have good news, the latest motor issue was only a bent push rod...no lower end or cam/lifter damage. But since then you keep making digs (on other posts ) about the subject and, it seems, with a little anger behind it. What's the problem? I thought it was a great topic which led to some interesting responses...that's all. I thought that that topic was the epitome of what these forums are all about: intelligent and passionate verbal sparring. Would you rather we just post pictures of sand dicks and signs? Aquaholicbum,
You just need to sell the Bayliner...it's making you an angry person.
I didn't start this topic to piss anyone off. I whole heartedly agree that we are all just "boaters" and deep down that's all that really matters. Hell, I'd even accept a tow job from a jet-skier...well, maybe not a jet skier..... Anyway, we've got "Hot Boat" magazine and "Family and Performance Boating" magazine, so I was just trying to see if we could pin-point any defining characteristics(if any) between the two.
Okay, so this is a dead topic for me. We should start a new thread "Cookie-Cutter Boats -vs- Custom Boats". That might be interesting..... Maybe not though...I think we would all agree that custom boats are the way to go if you got the cash.
